Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)
1] What you CAN NOT post.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene
You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)
The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!
2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.
This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.
3] Keep the focus.
Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.
4] Behave as you would in a public location.
This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.
5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.
Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.
6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.
Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.
7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.
- PLEASE READ -
Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.
8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)
If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Re: Will being American ever be considered an ethnicity?
My view is that those Americans who count on both hands all the countries from which they believe their ancestors came, are the closest thing to owning "American ethnicity". It could be argued that Americans whose roots in this country reach back to the 18th century, have the most compelling claim to such a distinction. Here are some more of my views on this subject:

Do you expose yourself to American media? You sure do, what do they teach you? "New American values" (i.e. be a good consumer so corporations can incrase their bottom line), multiculturalism and conformity (i.e. pick a costume, are you a "wigger"? A "punk"? A "clubber"? A "tech guy"? A "gamer"? A "racer"? You have to pick a costume, you can not be yourself, you have to conform because when you conform you lose your ties to your identity, you become a hand job of the state, this happend to European Americans and it is happening to Armenian Americans as well), the state is not happy until everyone has been homoginized.
And being part of the proud American "homoginized" tradition was great, there was some purity in being American, immigrating here, seeing Ellis Island, living the American dream, but the American dream somewhere in the last 50 years was hijacked by corporations and special interest groups, now, we work ourselves to death only to buy products, our fullfillment stems from our need to buy and consume. We have to be the "worlds consumers" this is the "New American", in the process alienating ourselves from our loved ones, our traditions, and our personal happiness. We work and work, pay taxes and finally the big reward is given to states like Israel, Turkey, and other foreign governments so that they can oppress others in the name of "foreign policy" instead of the nine to five worker that has no health insurance and can not save enough money to afford a sold education for his children. God, idenity, ethnicity, race, and values have been replaced with gift cards and credit cards, we are now a godless and are confronted with a identity crisis.
So, Lambboy, I don't recall them ever talking about "Chagh Andranik", but I do recall them talking about "George Washington", so, yes, we are stuck in this sham existence, they get you in the pot by saying things like you can "melt in the pot", but "melting in the pot" means that you are giving up your identity to people that are xenophobic, make no mistake, asking someone to homoginize themselves in the pot is not fostering diversity because being "diverse" means you are different, but this becomes a paradox because how are you different if you are melting in a pot? Hmm...maybe I will ask you to answer that question for yourself. Even if you opt to "melt in the pot" you will first have to be firewood that heats the pot.

It is the likely way of things (unless we somehow manage to plunge into a rhetrograde dark ages in the meantime). Obviously we loose much with the diminishing of ethnic/cultural distinctiveness - and as Armenians we understand the value of (uniquely) who we are...however in time as humans continue to integrate worldwide and join the dominant (European/Western based) culure (which obviously is evolving [much to the fears of the Aryan racists [{rodents and such} amongst us...] - particularly considering demographics)...these distinctions/differentiation will become much less an issueLast edited by Virgil; 12-03-2007, 10:14 PM.

Re: Will being American ever be considered an ethnicity?
Basing my perception on world history: many modern nations have traveled the path the United States is on today - including we Armenians. Before we took our final form, the Armenian as we know it today, we were a conglomeration (federation) of nations and tribes under the banner of Urartu for several hundred years. The same national evolution applies to Russians, the British, the Germans, the Chinese, the Persians, etc. So, one day in future, there will be an ethnicity known as the "American" nation. Genetically, the "American" nation will be a mix of Europeans, Africans, Hispanics, Asians. Most probably the culture of the "American" will be derived from the aforementioned ethnic mix as well as a heavy influence from Hollywood and market consumerism. And the language, American, will somewhat distance itself from English although not as much as it would have had in ancient times due to a centralized educational system. Most probably the "American" language will become a distinct dialect of English.
All this of course if the United States, as we know it, survives the ravages of the special interests that are currently leading this once great nation to oblivion.
Nonetheless, in my opinion, the future "ethnic American" will most probably look something like this:
