Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

You are not part of nature, Anonymouse? What you do to nature, you do to yourself.

You seem to be SOOO not only on the "wrong track" with this bit above (about nature), but also the wrong 'TRAIN'--even the WRONG form of TRANSPORTATION altogether! That is exactly my point. Environmentalists imply that somehow we are outside of nature, we are not. Furthermore, what am I doing to nature? What are capitalists doing to nature?

You do not have to say it to imply it. Basically what you advocate is the typical conventional wisdom every socialistic ideology has advocated. Do you want me to list it?

Even though what I posted (with the 10 points; post # 50, this thread) was more ethics than politics... sometimes (yeah, they put it well) I feel like pickin up my marbles. My way IS better than your way, Anonymous. I don't claim to know it all, but I know that much.

I supported Dennis Kucinich in the last Presidential primaries. I still think he (and Feingold from WI) are the best candidates. Senator Feingold has a much higher chance, and I think he might be our next President (if so, THANK GOD!)

            Re: Global Warming

The Global Finance Campaign is exploring ways to reconcile the existing economy with the real limits of the Earth’s ecology. Rainforest Action Network, together with allies and activists around the world, works to redirect the global economic system away from environmentally and socially destructive activities and into clean, sustainable, and socially just alternatives. The real threats of forest destruction, species extinction, and climate destabilization create an imperative for concerned citizens to demand an end to destructive investments from the world’s largest financial institutions and help to chart a new course towards a sane and sustainable global economy.

There are already signs of hope! After years of grassroots activism and campaigning by countless volunteers, America’s three largest banks, Citigroup, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase, have all adopted policies that safeguard old growth and endangered forests, curb investments in climate change, and protect the rights of indigenous peoples. These new standards are important steps forward in our work to bring about a sustainable economy, but many companies are still lagging. Our task is now three-fold: First, we must hold companies like Citigroup, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase accountable to their commitments, ensuring that their policies are fully implemented and translate into real changes. Second, we must help the rest of the financial industry move even further towards creating a world that is responsible, sustainable, and socially just. Finally, we must support the efforts of the countless individuals around the world who are creating alternative institutions that are able to reflect the diverse needs of local communities.

And with your help, we will!

How big is your footprint on ('Mother') Earth?

GLOBAL VISIOM: Protect the Ancient Forests

"Randy Hayes, from the USA, is the founder and president of Rainforest Action Network [aka RAN] (www.ran.org), an NGO which works to stop old growth logging, halt destruction of tropical rainforests, and protect the human rights of those living in and around those forests...

When we look around the world and we see the degree of deforestation, we see the climate change, we feel in our gut level the weather patterns change, we realise we're the last generation on Earth that's going to have a chance to save the rainforest, to orchestrate the paradigm shift to ecologically sustainable development that is socially just. So, to the young people out in the audience: there is reason for hope! We can make this paradigm shift, we can make this ecological U-turn, we can build an ecological utopia on this planet, and in many respects we can do it within our lifetime! We could have, in 10 to 20 years, virtually all of our energy from renewable energy, all of our transportation shifting towards mass transportation, industrial agriculture replaced with organic agriculture that's soil-building and not soil-destroying. These are the components of the solution, so we have to get out there and do it!

I also meant to make a correction to something I said earlier. Paper is an issue with forests, but it is easy to recycle your paper and buy recycled paper. There are also many other things an individual can do. See (e.g.,) the http://ran.org/ site, http://rainforestalliance.org/, or http://forests.org/ to learn how to help. If you (all readers) don't, who will?

By the way, talking of hybrids, I found the following article today pretty interesting. Junk science or not, I think their criteria for evaluating energy costs is interesting. And I certainly don't think simply looking at fuel consumption numbers is a wise way to compare vehicle choices Also it seems to me a lot of greenies are advocating the use of electric vehicles (not hybrids) and looking down on everyone else that drives gasoline engines, claiming they are "cleaner". This, while the whole time we are burning massive amounts of coal to charge up their batteries.

Here's the article: Many vehicles have lower energy cost than hybrids

Wouldn't it be great to have a 'Jeep' that is ecofriendly and doesn't support war? Maybe we can all work towards that goal. I'd love to see a hybrid Jeep (or any car, for that matter) that can run on any mix of alternative fuels. Biodiesel isn’t ‘the’ answer—but one of many diverse answers for the 'end of oil.' We are still going to need to plan the same as no cars at all. Local food production, for one... (I'm looking for diversity in decentralized, renewable energy: that doesn't say it will happen.)

The Jeep Liberty CRD Diesel (or any diesel) can be fitted to run on both diesel and biodiesel (like vegetable oil) Biodiesel available in Madison and many other places.

                  Re: Global Warming

My '93 Civic Coupe gets 350 miles per 9.5 gallons at a conservative estimate. This is also the average in a combination of city-highway. I am pretty sure that beats out a Prius and every other Civic available including hybrids. So Sip has a valid point.

Ani don't you know that Ford already makes a hybrid Suv?

Also how many ppl saw John Stossel reporting on the "We're running out of oil" and other myths last night? I laughed so hard I almost cried ... almost. its like am I supposed to be excited that we have enough oil that can be found in the earth/soil that we can completely ruin our planet? Greeeat. Having a sense of urgency that oil was running out and needing to find alternate forms of cleaner energy was a good thing imo.

Still our planet has craploads of oil. Just it's more expensive to refine when the oil is mixed in with soil and sand and yada yada. They have to steam separate the oil from the soil so the process is more expensive than the processing of a liquid well.

Back to the topic ... anyone read the Time cover article about Global Warming? We're screwed unless we reverse everything we've done up to this point in like 10 years. The "tipping point" so what's his name has stated ... the guy who knows more about global warming than anyone else. The same guy our president has censored from speaking on the subject. Typical ...

SNL did a parody of that view of global warming, tonight. Al Gore debated with global warming with a ditz character. He showed photos of glaciers that have vanished over the last few years. She'd say, "Global warming. That's hot. I love wearing shorts!"

Also: there was a skit about "Jen" in a restaurant.

Another was on a woman playing a role where she is surrounded by aliens (who sound like ghosts), ET arrived saying 'phone home' and dracula showed up and...' LMAO

Paul Simon was the musical guest.

Somewhat of another quick tangent (I'm very glad you are going to get rid of that. You are perfectly safe without that. No locks are needed for what isn't needed in the first place.)
