Respect or Love?

I guess she means something else. You can love chocolate, but you don't have to respect it. You can respect a famous general, but you do not have to love him. YET, when you are in a relationship, you love eachother out of respect for one another. If the man does not respect the woman and constantly forces her to do chores and act like a slave, there is no love. If the woman just sits on her lazy arse while her husband does everything, there is no love. RESPECT as in take into consideration what the other has to say and be FLEXIBLE. Not RESPECT as in worship the ground he walks on.

For me they go hand in hand, but I can see where respect and love don't necessarily have to be there are the same time. A lot of people have their own definitions of love, mine is "complete dedication." So a kid might say to his parents "You never RESPECT me!" and the parent may respond "You're right, I don't respect you cause you keep making wrong decisions, THIS is what's right for you" The parent clearly loves his child or he wouldn't keep trying to do things he felt was right for him, but he may not respect him.

So which is more important, Respect or Love? I don't honestly don't know... but I can say without a doubt that love is the single most powerful force on the planet.

I see, umm in that case i would want again for that person to both love me, and respect me, which will enable that love to grow.. i dont think we can differ and seperate the two and still expect each (love and respect) to be fulfilled in its fullest.. or atleast attempt too LOL/.. so, for me it would still be a drive for both..

I’m not talking about someone specifically… I’m talking in general. Yeh, I want that person (boyfriend, husband) both love me and respect me too… but this is not about that. The question is “in general……..”…
It’s not possible that everyone both loves you and respects you…

I guess I do not agree with you... I know the family which had love when they got married (they called it like that, at least), but after some time they started to fight without any reason… they didn’t have any respect for each other, each of them thought that he/she is the smartest one and didn’t even listen to each other…
As I understood you think that you can respect someone without loving, but you can not love without respecting (these are different statements for me)…
What about me, I would like someone respect me but not love me, rather than someone love without respecting.
What do you think about all these celebrities? Do you think that what they call love is a “real love with respect”? I do not think so…

During all my life I heard from my mom that "respect is more important than love". I didn’t agree with that statement long time. But I think I came to the conclusion that she was right!
I would like to know your opinion. What do you think about this? Would you rather like that someone love you or respect you?

I agree both of you... the true love for me is love whith respect... but the question is whould you like someone to really respect you or to love? Someone can love you just because you are a really kind persone, but he/she can not respeact you, can not respect your opinion and not ask for advice... and vice a versa, someone can respect you because of your knowledge, but not love you (even worse, hate you)... So, this is my question, which one do you prefer?
