If you're talking about the hockey player, yes he's Armenian. He's the second one now, right after Zach Bogosian.

Dude, I never said the following that you quoted above...

Prior to the 1700's there was no need for two names. However let's take things in large chunks first. Pre-Christian era, what I said holds true. First 1000 years of Christianity I think my explanations still hold. A second name might have been tagged on to the individual, but it would be descriptive and would not pass on from father to son. That only leaves about the last 500 years for two names to be used, the second as a permanent family name.
    I never said this.

Overall, I guess your right but I think it goes further back. Not a thousand years for sure but at least 7 centuries. This isn't a fact though so I may be wrong. Like I said, I'm going deeper into all this. Just have to find time.

I can't wait to discuss it with some intelligent people.(I am generous at times).
So are we, lol. Start the thread if you like. I'll discuss if I have time. Gotta finish CA soon so I might not have enough.

In Candles and Ashes, there will be a massive section for Armenian names so like it or not, I have to study all this and put all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Actually, I'm a landlubber. lol But I had that debate face to face with a few people, and it raised some hackles. I can't wait to discuss it with some intelligent people.(I am generous at times).

Saco, I would like to discuss this with you ad infinitum. I am very interested in History, Ancient History to be exact. I believe it was more widespread than you think, this single name basis of identification. The nobility had two names. The first name identifying the individual, and the second name identifying the noble house he or she belonged to. I haven't researched this that intensely yet, but, I believe this to be the case. Of course it depends which era we are talking about. The common people had one name. No house to identify with, only the father.

So, do you start the thread for the IAN or do I?

As I said, I just expect Armenians to show more class.
Welcome to the 21st century, full of disappointing expectations.
