| YEREVAN. – The Armenian-Azerbaijani border tension is convenient for Turkey in the lead-up to the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. The founding president of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA), political analyst Stiopa Safaryan, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Thursday. “Since Turkey and Azerbaijan have agreed to fight together against the Armenian Genocide Centennial, it is understandable that the border tension is in this context,” Safaryan said. “This situation on the border is convenient for Turkey to the extent that Armenia gets other blows in that direction, and partially deals with it.” The AIISA head noted that Armenia needs to be cautious of Turkey’s foreign policy. “It is indispensible for our [Armenian] foreign policy to have a concept, since if Turkey was conducting a punitive policy against Armenia by closing the border, economically throwing back, isolating [Armenia] in the past, [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan’s policy now is more insidious, and it seeks other objectives,” Stiopa Safaryan noted, and added: “He is conducting a more aggressive and dangerous policy toward Armenia.” |
