What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

3] Keep the focus.

This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

President says Turkish troops will be on island in perpetuity and proposed terms of rotating presidency are unacceptable

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, appears to have thrown an obstacle in the path to a Cyprus peace settlement, saying Turkish troops will be on the island in perpetuity.

Speaking after talks in Geneva were adjourned, Erdoğan also said on Friday that the envisaged terms of a rotating presidency for a unified island were unacceptable. The terms were a cornerstone of planned new governance arrangements.

The remarks, taken at face value, suggest UN peace efforts have probably not got as close to a deal as the UN sought to suggest at the end of the four days of talks on Thursday.

The conference ended with an agreement that officials would restart detailed talks on 18 January. No date was set for a further meeting at the political level.

A peace settlement for the island, divided since 1974, would need a new form of security guarantee, and Greek Cypriots are demanding a timetable for the removal of 30,000 Turkish troops.

Oil prices fell one percent on Monday as signs of a strong recovery in U.S. oil drilling activity outweighed news that OPEC and non-OPEC producers were on track to meet output reduction goals set in December."

"Azerbaijan: Energy Hopes vs. Italian Olive Groves

"Azerbaijan also has long insinuated, without proof, that Russia may be behind the protests. “In the end, the campaign against TAP gas pipeline will suit Russia,” said another SOCAR vice president, Elshad Nashirov. In 2014, then-NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that “Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organizations, environmental organizations working against shale gas, obviously to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas.” Rasmussen acknowledged, though, that he had no proof. “That’s my interpretation.”

Meanwhile, an Italian member of parliament is under investigation for accepting more than $2 million in bribes in order to oppose a human rights report on Azerbaijan that could have threatened the pipeline’s approval.

Azerbaijan also has asked for American help in overcoming the Italian intransigence. "

"Trump’s Border Tax Plan Could Cause A Global Oil Price Shock"

This morning, in a note titled "Destination-based taxation and the oil market", Goldman's Damien Courvalin focused on this issue and found that the price gain from shift to destination-based border adjusted corporate tax would prompt US drillers to “sharply increase activity" as a result of lower US corporate tax rates, which would aggressively incentivize shale drilling, resulting in a global oil price shock, sending domestic prices spiking, as global prices slide."

"U.S. shale oil and gas sector surges back to life

The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the United States has recorded the largest one-week increase for over five years, confirming a rapid upturn is now underway.

The number of active oil and gas rigs jumped by 35 to 694 last week, according to oilfield services company Baker Hughes.

Some of the increase may have been due to catch-up effects since the rig count unexpectedly declined by six the previous week. The average across the two weeks was in line with the recent trend.

But there is no denying a rapid and sustained upturn is now underway which could pose challenges for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and for shale drillers themselves.

The total number of rigs drilling for oil and gas has risen by 290, or more than 70 percent, from its cyclical low point at the end of May 2016.

The number of rigs targeting oil-bearing formations has rise by 235, or nearly 75 percent, from the cycle low at end-May.

Rigs targeting primarily gas-bearing formations have also rebounded by 61, or 75 percent, from a own low in late August.

Will Belarus be able to substitute Russian oil by deliveries from Iran and Azerbaijan?

[...] Deliveries from Azerbaijan were another alternative to the Russian oil, the President of Belarus said earlier. According to Reuters, Belarus received 560,000 of oil from Azerbaijan in 2016 but supplies halted in January 2017.
The Azeri oil cannot be all-time feedstock for Belarus refineries, analysts said. "Azerbaijan simply has no surplus oil. Their production is declining and will drop by several percent by 2020. They have a problem with loading the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. Furthermore, Azerbaijan has premium oil and will not sell it with a discount," Nesterov said.

Analysts are confident Belarus will not be able to find an alternative to duty-free oil deliveries from Russia

Oil prices are stuck in a holding pattern, waiting for more definitive data on what comes next. OPEC compliance is helping keep prices afloat, but rising US oil production is acting as a counterweight.
A new problem that has suddenly emerged is the record levels of gasoline sitting in storage. The market has already had to digest the fact that US crude oil stocks were rising, and investors have done their best to explain away the trend. But now gasoline inventories are climbing to unexpected heights.

In fact, the glut of gasoline is now the worst in 27 years. At 259 million barrels, US gasoline storage levels are now at their highest level since the EIA began tracking the data back in 1990."

"Azerbaijan, future gas supplier to Europe, faces shortfall at home"

BAKU/TBILISI, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Ex-Soviet Azerbaijan is on track to send gas to western Europe by the end of the decade, but is having to import supplies to use at home, compounding economic hardship that prompted protests last year. The country contains one of the world's biggest gas fields, Shah Deniz on the Caspian Sea, but it has presold the next stage of output, due by 2020, to Greece, Italy, Turkey and other states keen to reduce their dependence on Russian gas. At the end of last year, as construction of the pipeline to deliver the gas passed the halfway mark, Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR said it had begun importing gas from Iran.
