Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • When do we return Lenin Statue to Lenin Square??

The USSR is returning so fast, that I won't be surprised...., even some ex-komsomol will manage to change 'Mayr hayasdan' with Stalin's statue....

    Total disgrace, in total silence.....

    ------
Sarcastic part: the promoter of this bright servility are the "Republicans/Hanrabedagan", who claim every here and there their supposed ideology inherited from Njdeh. Of corse, most of them have no idea of at least a chapter of his ideology...

Nevertheless, by now, they are erasing the statue of the very enemy of their supposed "spiritual father", a chakal named Anastas Mikoyan, who's name must have been synonimus to infamy, for every normal Armenian.

The man who personally adds 700 names, by his personal initiative, to the execution list, for one and unique crime: Armenian Patriotism (= friends of Njdeh, aka-Tashnaks).

    Shame on us ....

You probably know more about the man and the era than I do, but I believe Mikoyan was also responsible for saving the lives of many important Armenians like
general hovanness bagramyan. There is also statues of Shahumian around Armenia. I think its simply a matter of Armenians being proud of important Armenians and being more forgiving of their communist crimes because they were Armenian.

I do agree that the Republican party does not stand for Njdeh and if Njdeh was alive he would be absolutely against the move.

There are lot of Bolshevik statues remaining in Armenia, only in Yerevan you do have Shahumyan, Myasnikian, Kay (Hayk Pjchkian), etc.....
They date back to soviet era, and they are "part of the heritage", and none as ill famed as Mikoyan....
Even in soviet years, no one had the idea to put his statue, so there must be a reason for....
There is nothing positive from his heritage for Armenia, his place is in Baku or Moskwa.

If it is fame that we are after, then might have chosen Artem, the avionics genius, who's "only" bad legacy for Armenia was the Migs that bombed us...or better put Stalin's statue, after all, his genes were inherited from an Armenian father, infesting his georgian maid.... and by a big luck, nowdays, even Georgia is forbidding his statues....

Unfortunately, the real reason, is to please the ex-Tchekist, ex-KGB nik, new FSB tzar....
      Shamefull servility.
It is just very sad, that Serjik uses Daron Markarian's signature to implement it, a man's who's father , Antranik Markarian, a Mshetzi, was jailed during soviet era, for "nationalism" (anti-bolshevism, tashnak, etc...), a man who's well timed death gave him PM's seat, before turning President.

Not only Njdeh, who never deserved a coffin, thanks among others to that chakal named Anastas (Anasdvadz), but Antranik Markarian must turn arround in his coffin.

Monument Controversy: Decision to set up statue of Soviet leader raises eyebrows in Yerevan

              By SARA KHOJOYAN
              ArmeniaNow reporter

A recent decision by Yerevan’s municipality to erect a monument to Soviet-Armenian politician Anastas Mikoyan in the city has elicited mixed reactions in Armenia given the legacy of Stalin’s close associate.

Many regard the initiative as an attempt to please Putin’s Russia, with which Armenia is currently engaged in closer integration as part of the Eurasian Economic Union establishment process. Others take the move in its stride, considering that Mikoyan was a prominent political figure who deserves to have his image immortalized in stone.

On April 30, the Yerevan Council of Elders approved the initiative on Mikoyan’s monument, with the ruling Republican Party’s faction (except one member Hayk Demoyan, director of the Genocide Institute-Museum) and the Prosperous Armenia Party voting for it. The opposition Barev Yerevan faction opposed the decision.

Mikoyan (1895-1978) was a Soviet statesman who occupied high posts under Lenin, Stalin as well as later under Nikita Khrushchev and Leonid Brezhnev. Many historians see his role in Stalin’s “great purge”, including in the territory of Soviet Armenia.

The decision by the Yerevan authorities to install the monument to Mikoyan (considering that Mayor Taron Margaryan’s father, late Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan was a Soviet-era dissident) caused a debate on online social networking sites where many appeared to oppose it. Critics mainly linked Mikoyan to the execution of thousands of Armenians held as “enemies of the people” during the Stalin rule. Even noting that Mikoyan was a “good diplomat”, they do not forget to stress that he put his qualities to the service of the Soviet empire and became a symbol of Soviet values.

Specialist in culture studies Vardan Jaloyan sees the decision by Yerevan’s municipality as something consistent with the current propaganda of the Soviet Empire across former Soviet countries. According to him, propaganda through such a well-known and influential Soviet political leader as Mikoyan will give Armenians the sense of being part of that Empire.

“In this regard, I believe that the decision reflects the interests of Russia, and this is perhaps what should have happened, considering the economic and political dependence of Armenia’s elite on Russia,” Jaloyan tells ArmeniaNow.

He says that the rebirth of Soviet values is taking place in Putin’s Russia, that is, the Soviet Union is being glorified as the most powerful Russian Empire that ever existed, and the logic of the initiative connected with a Mikoyan monument in Yerevan becomes clear in this light.

“In 1937, Mikoyan was sent to Armenia where he signed the verdicts and sentences passed by the Troika. Mikoyan was, in fact, the “executioner” on the high-profile cases like those involving writer Axel Bakunts, Sahak Ter-Gabrielyan and a number of other Soviet Armenian politicians,” says Jaloyan.

Those favoring the decision to erect a monument to Mikoyan view him as a powerful figure of his times.

Information security expert and prolific blogger Tigran Kocharyan is not an ardent proponent of the idea of a Mikoyan monument, still he says he cannot understand those who oppose the decision.

“One should not be afraid of a monument,” Kocharyan tells ArmeniaNow. “The best variant would be erecting a monument to both Mikoyan brothers (Anastas Mikoyan’s brother Artem was a prominent aircraft designer, who designed many of the famous MiG military aircraft).”

“Mikoyan is a controversial character, but he is a persona of global significance, he was Chairman of the USSR, the founder of light industry, he stopped the Third World War (during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962). And if we look at the monuments that are there [in Yerevan] already now, we can say something negative about everyone,” Kocharyan adds.

Re: When do we return Lenin Statue to Lenin Square??

Vrej do you know what stage the statues erection is in? Given the governments recent capitulation on several issues, I wouldn't be surprised if this can be reversed. It does seem unnecessary, a waste of resources, and an anti-Armenian move. There are much biggest issues for us to worry about, but this is something that is very unnecessary and can be defeated easily.

Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

I have no details on the practical side.
But the financial loss is the least important, it is question of national self esteem, national pride.
When you are practically forced to accept a traitor's statue, in the middle of your capital, erected by your supposedly independent state, the conclusion is simple.
And that is the aim of the whole operation.
This all reminds the erection of the Armenian-Russian friendship, or brotherhood monument, (by far less conflicting in Armenia, than the personality of Anasdvadz) in Yerevan, during Putin's last tour in 2013. It was decided in all hurry, installed in vital urgency, and was supposed to be inaugurated by the two presidents in person. And as a sign of humiliation, Putin did not assist to the inauguration.....

This one looks like an Ukaz, as all members of both regime parties did vote unanimously, with one exception, Hayk Demoyan, director of Dzidzernakapert museum. This guy must have had the guts, or too much historical memory, to refuse Serjik's order...

They may produce a statue in a couple of weeks if they wish.

And till now, nothing against the will of Putin was successful in Armenia, so I am not as optimistic as you are.

The most probable scenario will be chronic desacration, vendalism, or even a bomb, one day.... and as the Stalin Statue in 1962, its fall may cost the lives of innocents.
Any way, this Mikoyan statue will hardly last more, than Stalin's.
And as Stalin's, or Lenin's, it is a symbol of the return and invencibility of the Empire.
