The achievements are substantial. 1. Armenia now has a tax system that works. 2. You do not see cops stoping cars for $0.25 every mile. 3. Despite the booming oil revanues the azeris are still too scared to attack. 4. The signing of the protocals proved to be a huge boon in international politics because by rejecting them Turkey showed its true face on the international level. 5. The thing that i thought souldnt be done was playing the west vs the east effectively and i am glad he proved me wrong. Serj has been able to derive benefits from Russia, Eu, USA, and even Iran without having to pay any steep prices. There are other things also on the domestic front but you cannot make people be farmers or herders if they do not want to do those things. Even Georgia is considering opening up the link via Abkhazia for trade from russia to armenia. There arealso numerous projects in play with Iran including railroads and oil pipelines and refineries. I am not goin to go through it all but i will say that had any president done half of the things listed here in one term we should have all given him a kiss and thanked him for his service to his country but hey we are armenians and god forbid we should say anything nice about a fellow armenian.

Never seen so many people so eager to hang themselves along with their countrymen. Lets take a look at the two candidates yet again. Serj was born in Stepanagert Kharabagh-Raffi was born in sunny Fresno California. Serj served in the soviet military 1971-72-Raffi never served in any military. Serj was involved with runing Gharabagh before the war and became chairman of the kharabagh defence forces and he was the main planner of several successful battles kharabagh won. Raffi was watching scooby doo and when he finely did come to Armenia he joined Mr LTP and has been his buddy since. I know some here are not good at reading comprehension so i will repeat the important stuff once more. Serj=Kharabaghtsi with military and political experience vs Raffi=pampered diasporan with scoobi doo and kissing arss experience. Btw does anyone remember what happened the last time we left things under the control of LTP? Now do we really want to leave the country to the buddy of LTP? I know that Raffi is a diasporan and that means something to the diasporan armenians and you are right-it means like most diasporans Raffi is also brainwashed with the wonders of capitalism and democracy which never existed anywhere nore anytime. Like most other diasporans Raffi does not see any armenian issue unless it has the word genocide in it. Like most american diasporans Raffi thinks the USA economic/political model should be copied in Armenia. Raffi's actions mirror those of the typical USA politition. Diasporans along with Raffi have a hard time understanding that Armenia is not USA. Instead of fighting indians and their bows and arrows we have to contend with modern armies which drasticaly outnumber us. Instead of enjoying a industrial revolution with almost limitless resources we armenians dont have much resources. The USA has been protected by vast oceans from enemies for centuries while Armenia has been invaded by vast numbers of enemies over many more centuries. There is nothing wrong with a "can do attitude" as long as you really can do it but you cannot bring western ideologies and ways of doing things and dump them on Armenia and expect them to work when they don't even work in the USA. Wake up people - just because he is a diasporan does not make him a good leader. I will give Raffi credit where credit is due-unlike most diasporans not only has he been to Armenia but has settled there to. The funny thing is that the kind of change that is badly needed in Armenia is the last kind of change the diasporans and Mr Raffi have in mind. Capitalism is killing the entire world including the USA and Armenia and regardless of who is our leader the capitalist system will ensure that oligarchs and monopolists will continue to run everything just like they do in USA. I know this is just too much for many of you to comprehend and im not saying this to be sarcastic-unfortunately its the truth because everything i wrote here has been written before yet peoplehere still think Raffi will fix it and that Serj could have fixed it but chose not to. To see the world for what it really is you may have to look beyond your long armenian nose.

Տարիներ առաջ ես արշավանք սկսեցի՝ խնդրելով նախագահ Օբամային հետևել իր խոստումին և ճանաչել Հայկական Ցեղասպանությունը: Դուք երդում եք ընդունել պահպանել Հայաստանի Սահմանադրությունը, պաշտպանել երկիրը արտաքին և ներքին թշնամուց;
Նրանք, ովքեր գողանում են ընտրությունները ժողովրդից, համարվում են ներքին թշնամիներ և պետք է պատժվեն: Ձեր պարտքը պետք է լինի այն ի կատար ածել, եթե նույնիսկ, ոմանց համար այն կեղծավորություն թվա: Դուք նաև պետք է նկատի ունենաք խորհրդարանի լուծարումը և լինեք այն առաջին հայ ռեֆորմիստ Նախագահը որը անում է ամեն ինչ համոզվելու համար, որ ապագա ընտրություններն արդար և ներկայացուցչական լինեն:

Այսօր ամերիկահայ ռոք երաժիշտ, System of a Down խմբի մեներգիչ Սերժ Թանկյանը նախագահի ընտրությունների վերաբերյալ նամակ էր հղել ՀՀ նախագահ Սերժ Սարգսյանին: Ստորև ներկայացվում է Սերժ Սարգսյանի պատասխանը նամակին.

«Սիրելի՛ Սերժ,

Իմ կրտսեր թոռնիկն էլ մեր անվանակիցն է: Նա դեռ շատ փոքր է ու դեռ չգիտի, թե ինչ հպարտ ազգի զավակ է ծնվել, դեռ չգիտի, որ փոքր, շատ խնդիրներով լի, բայց հաղթանակած ու առաջ նայող երկրի քաղաքացի է ծնվել: Նա դեռ շատ բան չգիտի: Սե՛րժ, ես ու դու, մենք բոլորս ենք նրան ու նրա սերնդակիցներին հաշիվ տալու՝ ինչ ենք արել, որ Սուրբ սարի ներքո նոր Հայրենիք փոխանցենք իրենց: Պատկերացնո՞ւմ ես այն հարցական արտահայտությամբ աչքերը, որոնց հաշվետվություն պիտի տանք: Ես ու դու, Սե՛րժ, մենք բոլորս: Այդ աչքերը դեռ փոքր են ու խաղացկոտ, բայց վաղը լուրջ ու քննող են լինելու:

Ի՞նչ պիտի ասեմ նրան, Սե՛րժ, որ ես իմ ժողովրդին ապահով Հայաստան խոստացա, կազմակերպեցի մեր երկրի 21-ամյա պատմության լավագույն ընտրությունները (անշուշտ խնդիրներով հանդերձ, որոնք, սակայն, որևէ էական ազդեցություն չէին կարող ունենալ արդյունքների վրա) ու չկարողացա՞ համախմբել ողջ ժողովրդին ու ապագայի ճանապարհը ցույց տալ: Որ լուրջ վերաբերվեցի ու անգամ քննարկեցի պետության ու պետականության հետ աղերս չունեցող՝ օդից վերցրած «վերջնական ճշմարտություննե՞րը»:

Դա ական է, Սե՛րժ, ական գալիք բազմաթիվ տասնամյակների համար, որ անխուսափելի կործանման կտանի: Մենք զարգացման ճանապարհի ականները մի կողմ նետելու պարտք ունենք: Անօրինական ճանապարհներով հնարավոր չէ օրինականության հաստատման օրակարգ ամրագրել: Այդ օրակարգի վերջն էլ շատ արագ կգա նույն անօրինական ճանապարհով: Փոքրիկ Սերժը քո արվեստի սիրահար կլինի, կարծում եմ, ի՞նչ ենք նրան պատասխանելու, երբ մեզ հարցնի. «Արդյո՞ք տեղահանված ականների փիլիսոփայությունը բոլոր տներն ու գյուղերը ռմբակոծելն էր»:

Սա պետություն է, Սե՛րժ: Սրա մասին մենք շատ երկար ենք երազել: Իմ ու քո, մեր բոլորի պետությունն է: Փոքրիկ Սերժինն ու Հովհաննիսյանների ընտանիքի հրաշալի զավակներինն է: Մեր բոլոր զավակներինն ու թոռներինն է: Մենք ունենք դրախտավայր-Հայրենիք ու պարտավոր ենք ամուր պետություն կառուցել: Միասի՛ն, Սե՛րժ: Այսօրվա ականները վաղը մեր զավակների գլխին փոթորիկ կբերեն, կդառնան Bellum omnium contra omnes կամ «բոլորի պատերազմը բոլորի դեմ»: Ու արդեն հասունացած փոքրիկը կհարցնի.

Եվ «ո՞ւր ես առաջարկում գնալ, երբ ռումբերը թափվեն», Սե՛րժ:

Ի՞նչ ենք պատասխանելու նրան: Որ տարիներ առաջ ռոմանտի՞կ էինք կամ չէի՞նք հասկանում. սա՞ է մեր պատասխանը: Չի՛ հավատա մեզ, Սե՛րժ, կկարդա այս նամակը ու հաստատ կասի. «Դու առաջ նայելով տեսնում էիր այդ ամենը, ինչո՞ւ այնտեղ գնացիր»:

Դա չէ մեր ճանապարհը: Ճանապարհի հարցում ես ու դու համախոհներ ենք: Այո՛, ժամանակն է փոփոխության: Ու ոչ ոք չի կարող օրենքից բարձր լինել: Կեղծիքն ու երեսպաշտությունը, զոռբայությունն ու թշնամանքը քանդելու ենք հատիկ առ հատիկ ու հետևողականորեն, որ բացճակատ գոռանք՝ «ազատություն, մենք ազատ ենք»: Որ հպարտորեն կոչ անենք բոլորին՝ եկե՛ք «հետ, դեպի գետը Արազ...»: Որ փոքրիկ Սերժի ու իր սերնդակիցների աչքերին նայելու ու պատասխաններ տալու տեղ ունենանք, Սե՛րժ:

Դրա համար ես քո օգնության կարիքն ունեմ, բոլորի օգնության կարիքն ունեմ՝ Գլենդելից մինչև Ստեփանակերտ, Մելբուրնից մինչև Մոսկվա: Ես հավատում եմ մեր հավաքական հաղթանակին:

Ու վերջում անդրադառնամ քո հարցին: Դու հարցնում ես՝ ներքուստ համոզվա՞ծ եմ ես: Պատասխանում եմ՝ միշտ եմ համոզված եղել. ամեն ինչում, ինչ արել եմ՝ մարտ կառավարելուց մինչև ընտրությունների կազմակերպում: Հայաստանը պետք է զգալ, Սե՛րժ, այն անհնարին է զգալ միայն Երևանի կենտրոնի թանկարժեք գրասենյակում նստած, անգամ շատ երկար: Հայաստանը կարելի է զգալ դարերի իր երթը շարունակելու համար կռիվ տվող փոքրիկ գյուղի քարքարոտ հողին կանգնած և տղաների շիրիմների ծաղկաթփերի կանաչից: Հայաստանը խոսել է արդեն, Սե՛րժ: Վստա՛հ եղիր:

in 30 years, when the 1980s (Y generation) lead the nation, maybe there will be some real change, don't expect much from soviet-lived mentality.

You want to rely on evolution for improvement to happen.
It won't happen through evolution that quick, because through evolution the said body reproduces “an almost identical offspring”

Relying on evolution may lead to destruction as well, “survival of the fittest” rule applying.

What we need is a leader who will drive and motivate that change.

Unfortunately from the three Presidents none was a state builder or had leadership qualities as President to drive the country.

As comparison I have in mind Charles de Gaulle or Konrad Adenauer type of leaders, people who left a legacy to their nation at a particular time in history.

If Serj had any state building intentions or abilities he would have started from day one five years ago.

Instead after 5 years the latest and greatest idea from his administration is renting and settling toorks in Nzdeh country to graze sheep.

Serj to Serzh: Armenian American rock star casts doubts over Sargsyan’s election victory, urges change

American-Armenian musician, lead vocalist of the System of a Down rock band Serj Tankian has sent a letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in connection with the February 18 presidential election, in which he congratulates the incumbent on his formal reelection, but also casts doubts about the fairness of the vote.

In the letter Tankian, in fact, supports the claims by opposition leader Raffi Hovannisian, who was the main challenger of Sargsyan in the ballot, and now is disputing his election victory. The musician known as a staunch civil rights activist also effectively backs Hovannisian’s demands for punishment of vote riggers, dissolution of the National Assembly and holding of new genuinely free and fair elections as a compromise to end the post-election crisis in Armenia – something that has reportedly been rejected by Sargsyan.

“Victory means getting the most votes, of course, in a democracy. Based on the overwhelming reported fraud from many NGOs, irrespective of the OSCE report, it seems like it would be scientifically impossible for even you, Mr. President, to know whether you actually won the majority of votes. That’s quite funny isn’t it? That you, the President of Armenia are not really sure, deep inside, whether you are the true chosen leader of your people or not,” wrote Tankian in an open letter.

“That would really bother me personally. If I wanted to lead my people, I would really want them to make that decision for themselves, because I respect my people and that is their decision to make. Otherwise, I would take over Armenia and call myself the Governor General of Armenia or Dictator du jour or whatever moniker I felt like sporting that day. Maybe your party is out of control and the oligarchs are running out of caviar or something and they want to make sure that the flow of the good times doesn’t stop.”
The prominent musician continues:

“Whatever the case, it is time for change.

Whether you’ve won fairly or not, somehow you are now President, again. What does that mean to you?

Yes, Artsakh is important to us all and we have to struggle together for our brothers there.

But what I mean is how are you going to progress the cause of Armenians, in Armenia and around the world?

How are you going to help pull the country out of its economic, social, and political dysfunction and turmoil?

Obama at least offers hope, even when he lets us down.

Years ago, I started a campaign asking President Obama to do the right thing and stick by his promise to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

You too took an oath, to the constitution of Armenia, to protect the country from enemies foreign and domestic. Those who steal elections from my people are domestic enemies that need to be punished.

It should be your duty to enforce that, even if some think it hypocritical. You should also consider dissolving Parliament and being the first Armenian reformist President who goes out of his way to make sure that future elections are fair and representational.

Serzh, everyone who knows me knows that I can’t stand injustice. And like most diasporan Armenians, I have always been reluctant to criticize your government directly and publicly. But the avalanche of people suffering under your rule due to corruption and injustice is tipping the scale for us all.

You need to know that.

Armenia is desperate for the rule of law more than anything else. And no one can be above the law. You can make that happen, now, by example and presidential decree.

Unite us Serzh. Inspire us.

Please take this challenge.

Տարիներ առաջ ես արշավանք սկսեցի՝ խնդրելով նախագահ Օբամային հետևել իր խոստումին և ճանաչել Հայկական Ցեղասպանությունը: Դուք երդում եք ընդունել պահպանել Հայաստանի Սահմանադրությունը, պաշտպանել երկիրը արտաքին և ներքին թշնամուց;
Նրանք, ովքեր գողանում են ընտրությունները ժողովրդից, համարվում են ներքին թշնամիներ և պետք է պատժվեն: Ձեր պարտքը պետք է լինի այն ի կատար ածել, եթե նույնիսկ, ոմանց համար այն կեղծավորություն թվա: Դուք նաև պետք է նկատի ունենաք խորհրդարանի լուծարումը և լինեք այն առաջին հայ ռեֆորմիստ Նախագահը որը անում է ամեն ինչ համոզվելու համար, որ ապագա ընտրություններն արդար և ներկայացուցչական լինեն:
Սերժ, նրանք ովքեր ինձ գիտեն, գիտեն նաև որ ես անարդարություն հանդուրժել չեմ կարող: Բազմաթիվ սփյուռքահայերի նման՝ ես միշտ վարանել եմ Ձեր իշխանությունը քննադատելուց ուղղակիորեն և հրապարակայնորեն: Բայց այն փաստը, որ ժողովրդի անհամար բազմությունը տառապում է ձեր իշխանության տակ կաշառակերության և անարդարության պատճառով, կշեռքի նժարները խախտում է բոլորիս համար: Դուք պետք է այս իմանաք:
Հայաստանը անհապաղ կարիք ունի oրենքի իշխանության առավել քան որևէ այլ բանի: Ոչ մեկը չի կարող լինել oրենքից բարձր:
