haha ... im not happy about this but I still accept it as a fact ...some Armenians dont.. like the other day for example I was telling my aunt about the hamshenis and she like stopped me when I was talking and she was like no no this is absurd it dosent exist lol

I still accept they are Armenians but in my head it sounds so wrong they use the word hye...I guess if they said it in turk it wouldnt even bother me but the word hye ...its like taboo ( yes I know im a crazy nationalist )

Yeah, I read about the Hamshenis a couple of weeks ago actually... very interesting! Though, I still can't imagine Muslim Armenians... I mean, Christianity has played a big role in keeping us united and maintaining our identity and stuff, it's amazing that these people haven't yet assimilated and still consider themselves Armenian.

wow, Tom I didn't know about these people. I'd be interested to know when they converted to Islam. I know religion is a personal choice, but for an Armenian to leave Christianity is a BIG SHAME. They probably converted under the threat of death. Not that it's a excuse.

I don't see how it is unnecessary to have such an influential book available in Armenian, especially when 3 of your 4 neighbour states use it as their Holy book.

Hemsins are a group of people who speak Armenian. They live at Black sea region and they are Muslim.
Gagauzs are a group of people who speak Turkish. They live at Moldovia at autonomous Gagauzia and they are Ortodox Christian.
Diaspora Armenians are a group of people who mostly doesn't speak Armenian. They live mostly at France, Canada, USA and their religion is whatever popular at where they live.

That's exactly what I thought. This is the holy book of one of the big three Abrahamic religions. It seems like a pretty important book to have translated into any language.

Is this thread really an accurate reflection of how Armenians treat religious freedom? If you convert from Christianity, you cease to be Armenian? Or is it only if you convert to Islam? There are Armenian atheists posting here - what do you guys think of them?
