Moldy Cheese, you have to realize you're talking to a 16 year old. His intentions are good, he is pride-full, but obviously somewhat immature.

It goes without saying that we would all prefer a virgin, and it saddens all of us (those that care about preserving our culture) when we see Armenian girls with otars.

      Are you stupid?

      Did I say it's wrong? No, I don't think I did.

What I did say is wrong, is you expecting to "get" a virgin, while you yourself are anything BUT that.

For the simple fact that a woman has a womb, while a man doesn't. Please think long and hard about that before you ask me to explain the implications of this anatomical difference.

I actually am about to turn 16 on the 21st.

Well, I'm glad we all agree that if all Armenian women WERE virgins...that would be a postive thing and would signify self-respect.

I think when you talk about my "immaturity" - your refferring to my idea that, if we start ACCEPTING the idea that Armenian women dont HAVE to be virgins, and the sooner we expect it to BE that way, the higher the chances of it actually happening. Why would she have to be a virgin if nobody cared?

Can't disagree, that is a immature, illogical, and very extremistic of me to be that way.

I expect her to be a virgin. If she expected me to be a virgin...she would have to find somebody else. Just like an Armenian girl who tells a guy who expect her to be a virgin...to find somebody else.

ddd, thank you for that enlightening piece of information. Wow, do I feel awkward now.

Well, it's easier to "fix" them the younger they are.

            No.

"To me, virginity represents respect for one's body and for one's future life partner".

So if the guy isn't a virgin, then he's not respecting his future life partner OR his body.

I agree. To make everything completly equal, Armenian women should expect that aswell? Just as Armenian men expect it...?

I have no doubt he will get "fixed"

I agree with you in that both men and women should reserve themselves (if they expect virgin partners), though by society's standards, a man's virginity isn't worth nearly as much as a woman's, and from my experience, virgin women actually prefer a man that has been with a couple of girls.

You're catching on, little one. That is correct.

I feel bad now for name-calling you.

I don't think that we have gained respectability because Armenian women were virgins; that was the case in all cultures - more so in cultures that never inspired respect. Women were oppressed in all cultures - at least, in all patriarchal societies. Also, the changes - positive or not - in the habits and mentalities are mainly explained by the changing conditions of life in the societies where we live- i.e. not necessarily from a cultural point of view.

I fail to understand in your perception the strong correlation between abstinence and "purity" or respectability, as if an abstinent individual - man or woman - was more likely to be respectable than a non-abstinent one.
Personally, I chose to be faithful to the woman that I love and respect; but, I'm not sure if the rate of respectable individuals is higher among abstinent individuals. The reasons of my choice are many; such as respect of her feelings, stability, expression of the sincerity of my feelings towards her etc..

Also, are you suggesting that the crime rate is inversely proportional to the rate of "female virginity?" Many cases disprove your statement. Moreover, I'm afraid that your views may promote - intentionally or not - domestic violence and sexual harassment. I wonder if domestic violence does not cause more deaths than AIDS. Even in a country like France, domestic violence takes the life of a woman every 3-4 days.

Finally, I think that - most likely - women lose their virginity rather because of the "male" hormones than the "female" hormones i.e. pressured - read "bullied, hustled, forced, raped, etc." - into having sex by a male partner.
What if I find someone else when looking for you? My soul shivers as the idea invades my mind.

No. Your viewpoint is making sex and virginity the central issue in forming relationships while there are faaaaaar more important things than just sex sex sex sex. This constant focus on sex and virginity is actually the downfall of many poor young souls who waste their entire lives trying to live up to some arbitrary standards, set by their "culture".
                      this post = teh win.
