i could just easily say that Eastern is wrong.

but i sit here listening to eastern armenians with respect ( i am not arguing)
i understand ur point but u still should not call it wrong if its so wrong, no one would speak it.

why is it in the United Kingdom u can get loads of different dialects, yet no one calls any of them wrong.

army or no army, Western is just as correct as Eastern

Not necessarly wrong, but...astray.

Ancient Western Armenia is not the Western Armenian spoken today. The Western Armenia which you speak today has had centuries of Turkish influences, it has lost two distinctive sounds (2 different pairs of letters in our alphabet have the same sound in Western Armenian).

Its not that you speak a "wrong" dialect of Armenian, you just speak a "wrong" dialect of Western Armenian.

Sometimes I feel like the spoken Western Armenian flows alot smoother, but the logic in Western Armenian grammar...or, I guess the fact that you still use our ancient alphabet, is atrocious.

Aym, Beym, Keem...horrible.

I don't really care, as long as people still speak/read/write Armenian and continue to teach it to the next generation, be it Western or Eastern. The only thing I'll say is I feel for all people named Gago/Gagik.

I suppose some of you misunderstood why I said Western Armenian is "wrong."

I don't mean the language or dialect is wrong. I meant some of the pronounciations are wrong. For example, names like David or Daniel are right. But Tavit or Taniel are "wrong." Mount Ararat is right, Mount Ararad is "wrong." These names or words are not Armenian originated, by the way.

Also by the way, one of you said you speak Western Armenian and call Mount Ararat, Ararat, and not Ararad and so you essentially do not know what the hell I'm talking about. Well, you either do not speak Western Armenian well, or spell incorrectly, or you probably speak Eastern at times.

I am a "mix" of Western and Eastern dialect parents, but I've been mostly taught Western speaking/reading because my father passed away when I was young. My Eastern sucks.

I think I read somewhere that the main difference is the "loss" of all the consonant sounds. Like we have 3 d sounds, c (k) sounds, etc
Like in English, we end up with Garen or Karen, but are missing the middle and correct sound.
Maybe someone who can type it in armenian characters can illustrate.

So long as Eastern Armenian is the official language of the state, it is correct and Western Armenian is wrong.

Haven't you guys come to find that official languages are the ones with armies?

I still prefer Eastern Armenian for the asthetic beauty and fluency, especially when you read poems.
