Originally posted by karoaperI had never heard poghod in Armenia tunot. I was also thinking that Halebcis might have their own unique flavour, so it's unfair for me to consider it as Western in general. And Tom, you're right erkir is also used as country in Western but so is kaghak, at least according to Halebci Armenian.

Re: vocabulary differences between Western and Eastern Armenian
hey... we say jisht too, but we're Western Armenians (Bolsahyes)...
Have you heard the joke about a Halebci and a Hayastanci climbing a mountain?
From what I've heard, tseke in Eastern Armenian means to pull, while it means the opposite (to let go) in Western, which leads to the joke about A Halebci and a Hayastanci climbing a mountain, and when the Hayastanci needs help getting up, the Halebci passes down a rope. The Hayastanci yells, tseke, and so the argument commences.

poghod is used in Armenia for all the main streets.

Another one is "otar." In PA it means "urish", in Hayastan Armenian it means foreign.

I love using the Western "khent" now as opposed to Eastern version "gizh" (crazy), which to me sounds less cool than khent. Although gzhanoc sounds cooler than khentanoc (nuthouse).
