Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

      Cultural Destruction, A Genocide Continued

      Written by Raffi Sarkissian, Contributor

      Excalibur Online (York University), Canada
      Feb 1 2006

History leaves its tangible marks on our world through the remnants
of architecture and artifacts, which become valuable information for
individuals researching the social sciences. For example, the Coliseum
in Italy with its magnificent design tells us much about the culture,
architectural motif and favorite past times of the ancient Romans.

Many historians of ancient history have indubitably learned a great
deal from architecture such as the above example. However, in certain
circumstances, when these invaluable pieces of history lie in occupied
or disputed territory, they are systematically destroyed and removed
from the face of the earth in attempts to remove, along with them, the
cultural and historical realities and pasts of certain regions. This
is especially true when the country committing these acts of cultural
genocide is working diligently to hide a historical truth.

I speak of this problem because of a very recent incident in Old
Djulfa, Nakhichevan, an Azerbaijani occupied territory, just south
west of Armenia. This region is historically Armenian, along with much
of Eastern Turkey. After the forcible removal and deportations of
the Armenians from their native lands, during the Armenian Genocide
in 1915, these lands were left vastly marked by the remnants of the
Armenian culture, religion and architecture mainly in the form of
ancient churches, cemeteries and cross stones.

On Dec. 15, 2005, about 100 Azeri servicemen were caught, photographed
and videotaped by onlookers from the Iranian boarder, while they
desecrated and destroyed a 400-year-old Armenian cemetery filled
with hand carved traditional Armenian cross stones, the second of
such attempts in the last three years.

Both the Turkish and Azerbaijani governments have adopted a policy to
destroy the abundant historical and cultural wealth situated within
their territories. These are treasures, which belongs as much to all
of humanity as to the Armenians themselves. Churches dating back to
the eight and ninth century have been sentenced to destruction and
neglect, or converted to stables and or target practice locations. The
ancient city of Ani, today in Eastern Turkey, which was known for its
1,001 churches, is now barely marked by a handful of half destroyed
churches. It is only a matter of time that these remnants too will be
destroyed if serious action against this violence is not taken by the
international community. This is an attempt to remove all traces of
an Armenian history in these regions in order to further the Turkish
      and Azerbaijani genocide denial campaigns.

The destruction of these historical and sacred sites must be exposed
and stopped, and the awareness of such events across the globe must
be spread worldwide. As civilized human beings, we have learned to
treat and respect the cultural, religious and ethnic diversity of this
world with dignity, and we must not allow such forms of uncivilized
      and intentional destruction to occur.

Destruction such as this promotes hatred, racism and pain, and only
furthers the ambitions of oppressive and genocidal governments.

"All truth passes through three stages:
      First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident."

      Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)

Baku Makes Every Effort to Destroy Armenian Culture Traces at State Level

          21.02.2006 18:55 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ February 20 Armenian Culture Monuments Subject to Azerbaijan Aggression round table was held in the conference hall of the Institute of Biochemical Physics after Emanuel of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported the Yerkramas newspaper of Armenians of Russia. The panel was held to draw attention of the society to the issue of destruction of Armenian spiritual historical values in Azerbaijan to prevent possible repeated actions. The Russian-Armenian Commonwealth, International Academy of Sciences for National Security Issues and World Peacemaking Organization organized the event. Anti-Armenian policy of official Baku, drawing attention of the international community to prevent the cultural genocide, being committed by Azerbaijan, people’s diplomacy in solving the conflict and the role of international and Russian NGOs in reducing the tension in the region were discussed during it.

Participants of the round table adopted a statement, which in part says, “Humanity witnessed another vandalism act of the Azeri authorities in town of Julfa (Old Jugha), Nakhichevan in 21st century. From the first day of its establishment, Azerbaijan worked for Armenians to leave Artsakh, Nakhichevan and Gandzak, to exterminate Armenian population of Baku and other regions. Azerbaijan today makes every effort at the state level to finally destroy traces of Armenian culture and history in Armenian territories under its control. Destruction of Armenian Khachkars in Julfa again proves that neither Artsakh, nor another region populated by Armenians cannot be part of Azerbaijan. Latest unacceptable actions not only xxxxxle human dignity, but also run counter to conventional norms – preservation of the cultural legacy of peoples. According to the UN Convention of 1948 this is an act of genocide. Khachkars at Julfa cemetery are not only part of Armenian, but also common human heritage. By denouncing Azerbaijan’s actions of destroying Khachkars at the Armenian cemetery in Julfa, we urge Azeri authorities to stop the vandalism. We protest against the criminal policy of the Azeri leaders and we address the international community, demanding to express its attitude to the criminal policy of Azerbaijan.”
"All truth passes through three stages:
          First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident."

I don't think it was this thread, but there was a thread in which a member was alleging Armenian destruction of Muslim/Azeri/Turkish monuments in Armenia... I've started a news thread with some interesting articles in response...

UNESCO Ready To Send Experts To Nakhijevan

UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura expressed his readiness to send a group of experts to Nakhijevan to study the issue and censure what has happened, PanArmenian.net reports. Last week the World Armenian Congress Chair Ara Abrahamyan, being a UNESCO good will Ambassador, during an official meeting drew Koichiro Matsuura’s attention to destruction of the Armenian cemetery in Old Julfa by Azeris. According to Chair of the European representation of all-Armenian structures, RA FM’s Advisor Ashot Grigoryan, Ara Abrahamyan censured vandalism regarding cultural monuments in general and, particularly, act of destruction of the Christian monuments in Old Julfa, having noted that it entailed negative political consequences and more destabilized the political situation in the South Caucasus. Ara Abrahamyan also invited Koichiro Matsuura to visit Armenia to get acquainted with treasures of the Armenian culture. The UNESCO Director-General assured that in case of receiving an invitation he would schedule his visit to Armenia with pleasure.

May I ask for the source of this news? I looked at unesco.org thinking that I could find it in their press section, but could not find anything.
