‘talat Pasha Rally’ Gathers 15 Chauvinistic Turks

Despite the ban of the Berlin Police against "Talat Pasha rally," Turkish nationalists held a gathering in the German capital. Turks were forced to change the rally site as the Armenian community of Berlin had already occupied the site. Turkish Zaman newspaper wrote on March 16 that the rally gathered 15 members of the Turkish Workers’ Party and Kemalist unions. The rally failed as a result of squabble between TWP and Kemalists.

Moreover, the Armenians of Berlin together with the Assyrian community organized their own rally carrying posters "No Hailing of Genocidal Turkey in Germany", "Armenians and Assyrians Jointly Condemn Turkey for the Genocide." The Turkish rally participants, Zaman writes, observed a minute’s silence in memory of Talat.

The rally was initially planned to take place on March 18, and the organizers threatened to enroll 5 million strong Turkish community of Europe. Its staging 3 days earlier allows us to assume that the Turks attempted to evade the Berlin Police’s decision.

Germany rejects visa requests of 'Talat Paşa' demonstrators

German consulates in Turkey are rejecting visa applications from those who want to travel to Berlin on Saturday to take part in a demonstration to denounce Armenian genocide claims and commemorate Ottoman statesman Talat Pasha on the anniversary of his murder by an Armenian gunman in Berlin 55 years ago.

Approximately 200 people have applied to German consular services in Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir, asking for visas to travel to Berlin on Saturday morning to take part in the Berlin, Talat Pasha Movement Rally on a chartered plane.

Most of the applicants were expected to receive a negative reply to their requests as of yesterday, according to an official at the German Embassy in Ankara. The rejection applies to those who want visas specifically to attend the event.

The official said a few people who earlier requested visas to attend the demonstration, including Workers' Party (İP) Chairman Doğu Perinçek -- one of those heading the rally -- have already been issued visas. These visas will not be revoked.

Some 500 people were expected to fly to Berlin from Turkey to join the demonstration. The participants of the rally include Perinçek, former Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktaş, former chief public prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals Vural Savaş, Istanbul University Rector Kemal Alemdaroğlu and theology professor Zekeriya Beyaz.

The organizers aim at commemorating Talat Pasha, the Ottoman interior minister during the World War I years whom Armenians claim had a key role in the alleged Armenian genocide, on the 55th anniversary of his murder. They will also take the opportunity to denounce genocide charges and call on the German Parliament to revoke a resolution passed in June recognizing the alleged genocide.

A provocative announcement for the rally invited participants to “take your flag and come to Berlin” and said “unjust treatment of Turkey should be ended if Western capitals do not want to be burnt like Paris.”

The German Embassy official said a decision on a visa application to travel to Germany required a conviction that the applicant's interest in travel be weighed against German public interest.

“In this case, the consideration of German public interest favors a negative decision and therefore the decision is a negative one,” said the official.

Simply the perincek gang were not given visas, and he thinks this is imperialist conspracy. They aimed to be hindered so that he can make up some conspriacy theories out of it. They could very well do it by Talat pasha's graveyard.

If you see these clowns with tashnaks and support their cause dont get suprised. In past they were supporting Greeks in CYprus, and blame Turkish army.

I remember these clowns throwing eggs to Sultan Abdulhamid hans picture on the wall of Darul Aceze, the nursing /hospital house, build by Hamid Han for the elderly people. Darul Aceze means place for the handicapped. Sultan Hamid also build mosque, church and synagogue in Darul Aceze campus.

İşçi Partisi Genel Başkan Yardımcısı Mehmet Bedri Gültekin ise konuşmasında, Berlin polisinin, 15 Mart'ta Talat Paşa'yı anmak için düzenledikleri tören sırasında Yunan ve Ermenilerden oluşan başka bir gruba kendi yerlerini vermelerini eleştirerek, polisin tavrını kışkırtma olarak nitelendirdi. Atatürkçü Düşünce Derneği temsilcileri de, Türkiye'nin laik ve bağımsız devlet olduğunun altını çizerek, ne Türkiye'den, ne de Kıbrıs'tan bir parça toprak verilmeyeceğini dile getirdiler.

Some 5,000 Turks rallied under the slogan "Take your flag and come to Berlin" over the weekend in Berlin to urge the German Parliament to reverse its decision to acknowledge Armenian genocide claims.

The Talat Pasha movement, responsible for the rally, was initiated by Workers' Party (IP) leader Dogu Perincek and former Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas. Many representatives from Turkish political parties and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) participated.

The participants in the rally marched from Berlin's An der Urania Street to Ernst Reuter Square chanting "Long live Turkish-German friendship," "We didn't commit genocide, we defended the country," and "The genocide lie is a U.S. game." While they carried signs showing photos of Turkish diplomats killed by Armenian terrorists, they also called on the German Parliament to denounce the genocide claims.

During the rally, the crowd stopped at Steinplatz where Talat Pasha was assassinated in 1921 and sang the Turkish national anthem.

Delivering a speech to the crowd, Perincek said, "Nobody can bring us to our knees by accusing our nation of massacre." He also lashed out at the decision of the German Parliament making Turks out to be "butchers," saying, "The German Parliament has stabbed Turkish-German friendship in the back with this decision." He also urged the Parliament to annul the earlier recognition.

Stressing that an erroneous decision by Germany should not be included in German textbooks, Perincek said, "Don't put hatred and antagonism in textbooks. Don't make Turks and Germans enemies."

Perincek also lambasted German Chancellor Angela Merkel's undertakings to ban the rally, saying, "Merkel should speak in German, not in American." The IP leader also claimed that the Armenian genocide claims serve the U.S.' Greater Middle East Initiative (GME), adding that the recognition of the claims is not for the benefit of Germany.

At the head of the rally, Denktas laid flowers where Talat Pasha was assassinated. Sunday, a general assembly to commemorate Talat Pasha was held in Berlin. Last year, the same group held another demonstration to mark the 82nd anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne. During that rally, Perincek lashed out at a decision by Switzerland to punish those who deny the Armenian genocide claims, saying, "The Armenian 'genocide' is an international lie," after which the prosecutor from Winterthur opened an investigation into Perincek and the incident turned into a diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Switzerland.

Turks in Lyon protest inauguration of Armenian monument

Turkish associations in Lyon, France organized a rally over the weekend to protest the Lyon Municipality's decision to dedicate a monument commemorating the so-called Armenian genocide.

The rally began at Place Bellcour with the members of various Turkish associations participating while carrying Turkish and French flags. Some 1,500 Turks participated in the rally and chanted slogans against the inauguration of the monument. The rally ended at the Lyon Municipality Building, where protestors laid a black wreath at the front door.

French police used teargas to disperse a number of Armenians who were trying to provoke protesters as a means of preventing a dangerous escalation of tension between Turks and Armenians.

The Lyon Municipality made its decision in 2004 to dedicate a monument to commemorating the alleged Armenian genocide. They also decided to make a 45,000 euro contribution towards the total cost of 130,000 euros for the monument and ceremony.

Certain French NGOs together with UNESCO opened a lawsuit against the construction of the monument, claiming that it will violate the district's aesthetics. Some 150,000 Armenians live in Lyon.

In 2001, the French Parliament recognized the Armenian genocide claims, a move which created a diplomatic row between Ankara and Paris.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ March 18, when a wave of rallies shocked France several thousands of Turks protested in Lyons against the erection of the monument to the Armenian Genocide victims. They came across French ralliers at the municipality. Turks attacked the French and the police dispersed the crowd with tear-gas bombs. French and Turkish press covered the incident widely. Hurriyet Turkish newspaper wrote that “Armenians came to the rally to trouble Turks and three Armenians were wounded” what later turned out as a lie. According to chairperson of the Armenian Federation of Europe Hilda Tchoboian, the Mayor of Lyons promised to prevent the action against the monument erection. “However March 17 he announced that the rally was authorized despite the demands of all the political circles of Lyons to prohibit it,” she said.

Hilda Tchoboian considers that the Mayor took the decision under the pressure of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which said that Turks promised to refrain from anti-Armenian posters and slogans. However they did not keep their promise. They shouted out offences swaying anti-Armenian posters. “The Armenian youth explained the essence of the case to the French, who started shouting to Turks “France is not your place”.

March 19 Armenians gathered at the editorial office of Progress newspaper that published some anti-Armenian articles. The editor said the newspaper will not publish articles of the kind any more, Hilda Tchoboian said. She added that March 20 a press conference dedicated to the recent events will be held March 20 and underscored that all genocide denying rallies will be barred. “The Armenian community of France will not keep silent, moreover this country and its people have announced their position on the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915,” she said.
