Lyons Mayor Failed to Fulfill Promise

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ March 18, when a wave of rallies shocked France several thousands of Turks protested in Lyons against the erection of the monument to the Armenian Genocide victims. They came across French ralliers at the municipality. Turks attacked the French and the police dispersed the crowd with tear-gas bombs. French and Turkish press covered the incident widely. Hurriyet Turkish newspaper wrote that “Armenians came to the rally to trouble Turks and three Armenians were wounded” what later turned out as a lie. According to chairperson of the Armenian Federation of Europe Hilda Tchoboian, the Mayor of Lyons promised to prevent the action against the monument erection. “However March 17 he announced that the rally was authorized despite the demands of all the political circles of Lyons to prohibit it,” she said.

Hilda Tchoboian considers that the Mayor took the decision under the pressure of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which said that Turks promised to refrain from anti-Armenian posters and slogans. However they did not keep their promise. They shouted out offences swaying anti-Armenian posters. “The Armenian youth explained the essence of the case to the French, who started shouting to Turks “France is not your place”.

March 19 Armenians gathered at the editorial office of Progress newspaper that published some anti-Armenian articles. The editor said the newspaper will not publish articles of the kind any more, Hilda Tchoboian said. She added that March 20 a press conference dedicated to the recent events will be held March 20 and underscored that all genocide denying rallies will be barred. “The Armenian community of France will not keep silent, moreover this country and its people have announced their position on the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915,” she said.

Berlin-Brandenburg Court Barred to Call Armenian Genocide “A Lie”

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The court of Berlin-Brandenburg Bundesland, Germany has decided that Turks, who stage rallies, have no right to use posters and transparencies denying the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. From now on it is prohibited to call “a lie” the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in the territory. It should be noted that on that very day Turks were going to hold a demonstration in Berlin to commemorate Talaat Pasha, however, because of the resolution adopted, police thoroughly checked all the posters and transparencies in order to register facts of the Genocide denial. Berlin-Brandenburg is the first in Germany and the second in Europe region in the number of Turks. Over 1 million Turks live only in Berlin. So, as the Armenian Turkologists note, Germany, the main Turkey’s ally in the EU, has confirmed its position on the resolution adopted by the Bundestag, which can bring about a chain reaction everywhere in the EU, reported IA Regnum.

I think you're right. Furthermore, like the Armenians, every nation who has been damaged has a right and an obligation to educate the world about it. We barely have enough time and resources to educate the world about what happened to our people; it is up to others to educate the world about what happened to their people, and if they do, we will support them. Today in America the two groups that make the most noise about what's happening in Darfur are the Armenians and the Jews, that despite the fact that it's not our people that are being systematically cleansed.

Foreign Ministry warns deputies about their activities abroad

The Foreign Ministry yesterday warned deputies to brief Turkish diplomatic missions beforehand about their possible special contacts and organizations in foreign countries, so that problems that may arise can be minimized or prevented.

The warning came in direct link to rallies held in Berlin and Lyon, France over the weekend to protest the recognition of Armenian genocide claims in European countries, events which risk souring Turkey's diplomatic relations with the two key European Union countries.

The Turkish Parliament also sent the same warning to political party groups saying that although the persons who make arrangements of special meetings or organizations are widely known in Turkey, they might have negative reputations outside of the country. The latest reference was a thinly-veiled one toward Dogu Perincek, the leader of the Labor Party (IP), although there was no specific name in the statement.

It was underlined in the warning that if the deputies inform Turkish representations before their planned visits and meetings, the problems coming from these events might be reduced to a minimum level.

German And French Warn Turks For Attempts To Renounce Armenian Genocide

GERMAN AND FRENCH WARN TURKS FOR ATTEMPTS TO RENOUNCE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

On March 18 about 20 demonstrations were expected to take place in
Berlin, about 1500 policemen had to do overtime work to protect the
demonstrators from indiscipline.

Turkish nationalistic organizations had planned a great demonstration
on March 18 in concern with 85th anniversary of death of taleat
pasha. And about 4 million Turks living in Germany were to "take
their flags and come to Berlin" to take part in "the great event of
the year" in order to prove that the Turks are "innocent" and that
there was no Armenian Genocide in Western Turkey.

That impudent announcement infuriated even Berlin Police and the
demonstration was banned. Yet, the slimy organizers got the right to
hold the demonstration by a Court resolution. On March 16 the police
appealed to Berlin-Brandenburg Departmental Court with the demand to
ban the demonstration as "taleat pasha" was one of the main organizers
of Armenian Genocide".

Yet the Supreme Court of Democratic Germany couldn't uphold the
claim and passed a resolution rather important for the Armenians:
"Allow the demonstration on a strict stipulation: any poster, speech,
picture or opinion denying the Armenian Genocide will be condemned
by 189 article of Criminal Code (reviling of memory of victims)."

About 1700 participants of the demonstration on March 18 were watched
by the police from Urania to Charlottenburg. They demanded from
the demonstrators to show all the posters and pictures. Turkish
demonstrators demanded that the Bundestag should call beck the
resolution of July 16, 2005 according to which Germany adopted the
fact of Armenian Genocide.

On the other hand the German Right Extremists (NPD) had organized a
demonstration of protest against the Turks. They warned the Turkish
demonstrators with posters and appeals like "No Parisian situation
in Berlin", "Berlin is a German city".

German Left Party (PDS) had also surrounded Charlottenburger
Chlosschtrassen as a sign of protest against Turkish demonstrators.

Christian Democratic and Christian Social (CDU/CSU) parties condemned
Turkish nationalists strictly.

It should be mentioned that the demonstration turned in favor of the
Armenians. As it is known, demonstrations were held in French cities
Lion and Marsalis. And here the French defended the Armenian Trial.

The procession of Turkish nationalists organized in Lion had a
dramatic end. Yet, French (!) demonstrators stood on the way of the
Turkish demonstrators and the police had to use tear-gas to calm the
demonstrators.

Rhone Prefect to Prohibit Actions Denying Armenian Genocide

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Prefect of the Rhone Jean-Pierre Lacroix announced Monday that he will prohibit all new gathering of free-Turkish associations which may result in denial of the Armenian Genocide, following a demonstration held in Lyon Saturday. Blamed by Armenian associations of France for not having prohibited this gathering against the construction of a memorial to the Genocide, which will be inaugurated on April 24, the prefect of the Rhone asked to understand "the emotion and the anger of the French of Armenian origin". "But, from a legal point of view, we could not prohibit it. At present, we have evidence and I will prohibit any other gathering of this type", he defended himself at a news conference. Previously, at a briefing organized by Armenian associations, a decision was made to address Minister of the Interior Nicolas Sarkozy so that this type of ashamed gathering "is not held in our country any more". "Mr. Sarkozy must make the step necessary to complete the law of January 2001 on the recognition by France of the Armenian genocide", affirmed Martine David, mayor of Saint-Priest (the Rhone). "The law on recognition of the Armenian Genocide misses an article necessary for punishing those who, on our ground, deny the Armenian genocide ", specified a person in charge of the Coordination Council of the Armenian organizations of France (CCAF), reports AFP.

Simply because none of the above were "French Killed BY THIER OWN Gov., that they expected protection from !"
