Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Re: How Much of the Bible Must Be Historical to Believe?

<3 NdGT!! I attended a talk where he said some of the same, but he's a bit more focused here.

I agree with what ArmSurvival said. It's a need for answers.

We're still working out the mysteries. Believing that a creator did it does nothing but discourage inquiries for the truth.

I also have no problem with people wanting to believe in the christian god, islamic god, a turtle, russel's teapot, the fsm, or whatever. Where we have a problem is when any of these beliefs which are based entirely on faith (ie lacking evidence) lead to impositions on the rights of others.

I have read it and I don't believe it to be a historically accurate book or the word of any deity, nor do I find it to be a particularly ethical book either. What it lacks is veracity.

You believe two pairs of all the species fit on an ark?

You believe that the whole Earth was covered by water in a massive flood?

You believe the whole of the universe including our solar system, our Earth, and all the living things on it were created in 6 days?

You believe the Earth to be less than 6000 years old?

You believe that a creator individually created each species alive?

You believe woman was made from the rib of a man?

You believe women are inferior to men?

You believe the cure for leprosy is bird's blood and chanting?

You believe owning slaves is okay?

You believe a woman should have to marry her rapist?

You believe that Sampson actually killed 1000 people with the jawbone of an @ss?

You believe Jesus was a zombie?

You believe you should kill me because I don't believe in your god?

        ...

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Jesus was a zombie? Umm... It's kind of the whole highlight of the new testament and the reason you celebrate Easter. Risen dead? You need a verse for that?

You don't recall reading about killing those who don't believe in your god?

Deuteronomy 17 "If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant; 17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded; 17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and inquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel; 17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die."

Exodus 22:20 "He that sacrificeth unto any god save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed."

And just so you don't have to flip around too much for the many slave references, here's a couple from Exodus: 21:2 "... When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing." and 21:26-27 "When a man strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys it, he shall let the slave go free for the eye's sake. If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he shall let the slave go free for the tooth's sake."

I forgot about the killing the gays too... Do you want that verse too?

I don't think God wants you to kill gays, I think he wants you to not live with them, so that when he kills them you won't get caught in his rampage like Lot almost did.

jgk3 who said anything about killing gays, I don't know where you come up with that conclusion, no where in the Bible does it say to kill gays so get your facts straight before laughing for no reason.
