If there's no famine (aka, the economy is doing good or ok), you'll be able to eat bread with your family. If there is a famine (the economy is bad), you'll be hungry, suspicious and greedy, and the rich nakharars that you serve will be threefold so.

If you're talking about our nomadic ancestors who didn't so much own the land as follow their nose to the next grazing area for their hunt, the same realities of abundance and scarcity will hold. This can only mean that civilization is a spinoff of something more primordial, where we always have sought out to live, to express emotions of joy, sadness, to develop skills and use our creativity to eat and play with more and more of the universe.

With each generation's death, a renewal of human life came about, to re-experience the Earth, it's challenges and rewards, it's curiosities. It is only natural to expect the same today. If old mentalities and traditions are to have lasting merit, they must be accessible to the individual to reinterpret along modern needs, otherwise they can only serve as memorized adages that are adhered to without any deeper thought.
Most of our genes come from peasants? Do you have any idea how wealthy many Armenians were prior to the genocide? They owned deeds to homes, businesses and farmland.... they didn't "rent" or "mortgage" their living space.

Sounds like they were probably richer as a whole when their masters weren't Armenian nakharars, but Ottomans. Sound familiar to Armenians today living in the diaspora?

Kannada, reading your posts through, I get the distinct impression of you as someone who feels like so many things you thought you were entitled to never materialized. You blame that on factors outside yourself. Western culture is bad. Western women are cheap, or are looking to take advantage of men. Western ideas are stupid. You live on someone else's land because your ancestral lands were ripped from under you...

The thing is, though, that you have some agency as to how your life unfolds. And maybe, just maybe, at least some of what you struggle with is under your control. You can be bitter about all those things you thought were coming to you but didn't, or you can cut your losses, grieve, and get on with it.

            It does, indeed!

But if we admit to this, then we can't live our lives based on nebulous dreams of some idealized past.

Depends what you mean by richer. The Armenian nobles claimed the land and allowed our ancestors to live freely on it while having complete control over the army in order to protect it. Probably something similar to what Gaddafi was doing for Libyans. For the average Libyan most things were able to be provided for free because Gaddafi managed the country's resources and shared it with the people.

You know what happens when there are too many hands in the cookie jar, right?

This was also during a time when Feudalism was a common form of government... probably what the world will turn towards once this sham of a democracy comes to an end.

Are you suggesting that the Native Indians cut their losses, grieve, and get on with it? Get on with what? Their land was stolen, their women raped/killed and their children brainwashed/identity stolen. Perhaps they can put on some rose colored glasses and be happy while the offspring of their murderers bask in glory and their daughters work in strip clubs to survive. Oh yeah, HAIL WESTERN CULTURE.

Afghanistan has *everything* to do with opium. Follow the money and the weapons. They go in one direction. Narcotics go in the other, as does human trafficking. YOU are truly clueless. You should read real sources, not the tabloids.
Allowing the rulers of Afghanistan to partake in the profits from harvesting opium was just something to sweeten the deal. The Afghanistan "mission" is about wealthy investors (along with certain Texans and Saudis) building a pipeline through Afghanistan. Afghanistan also has lots of mines full of natural resources.

I know, it's hard to knock the crap the American media feeds you out of your head (the propaganda is so well organized) but this video should help:

I hope Afghanistan becomes a vassal of Iran. US brought Iraq to the hands of Iran, now hopefully Afghanistan. The exact thing US/Israel didn't want. Afghanistan right now is a lost cause for the West - it's just about saving face right now. We need a powerful Iran out of this.

Oh, I'm not questioning the importance of fossil fuel politics in the world. I was talking about what preceded that, not long after Marco Polo returned from the East. The opium trade pre-dates the issue of fossil fuel pipelines by several centuries. And, if you read closely, I am not condoning what the West did to screw up the world, and that it is now dealing with the mess it made.

And, when I was suggesting someone "cut their losses", I was speaking to you specifically. You need to cut your losses, grieve, and get on with it. Otherwise, you are just another bitter Armenian guy blaming all of his misfortune and frustration on everyone else but himself.

Mos, I'm not against the idea of a strong Iran. You should know that I resent the way the Republicans have effed up the world.

My only loss is seeing so called Armenians support trash like Kardashian while calling real Armenians backwards Taliban people.
