  • What are you first?

This may be silly, but it's something I've been thinking about lately cause I keep hearing people use it. For example, people will say "I'm an American first" or "I'm a Woman first" or "I'm a father first" etc... I guess meaning that that aspect of themselves is the most important to them. I remember really starting to think about this when I found out what a strong relationship Israel and Turkey had, asking my teacher "But aren't they Muslims? I thought Muslims and Jews don't get along?" to which he replied "They're Turks first, Muslims second," so that's what got me thinking. What about you guys? Mine is cliche, but true.. I'm Armenian first.

    Armenian
(it's not cliche, seriosuly. How many of you mention that among the first things you tell people about yourself? It is almost always the first thing I say)

It depends to whom I am speaking. If I speak to a random guy that doesn't look like he knows what armenia is, I tell him I'm french, if this guy looks like it's a nationalist Dutch (who thus doesn't like french people) I tell him I'm Belgian and if the guy looks like he is smart, knows his geography/history and isn't Turk, I tell him I'm Armenian

Not to sound repetitive, but I am Armenian first.

            What are you first?
I think this question is similar to when people tell you, "So, tell us a little bit about yourself." What would be the first thing you say? I'm Armenian.
            I see...

Sometimes it's even the first thing people ask about you when they hear you speak Armenian. Like the other day in class I was talking to a friend, in Armenian, about this asian annoying girl in our class (thats so cool how we can do that!) and this guy next to us was like oh are you two Armenian? ... lol I dunno why he was shocked, but it was funny!

LoL. Well.. there are two different things... what you ARE first, and what other people percieve you as first. I AM an Armenian first, but to other people I'm some white washed guy. Oh well.
