Very true. I guess I have grown up EXPECTING that all armenians would have the same attachment to Armenia as I do, but it's just do much easier to "be american" and not bother yourself with a country living the harsh transition from communism to capitalism. What I loooove to hear is people that say "I'll wait for the situation to get better, then I'll see". Don't they realize that they've been given all the tools to make the situation better, and it is up to us to do it? But, as you said, they just aren't as interested by the idea.

I definitely do not plan on staying here forever. This country is going down the drain as all empires do. It's only a matter of time. No one can imagine this country falling but neither could Roman 2000 years ago, yet Rome fell. It happens all the time in the history of civilizations. It's the rule not the exception.

Ya, America is going down the drain pretty fast. But let's say that there is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge recession in the States, would millions of Americans leave America, settle in Europe and forget the whole thing? Are americans more attached to their country (only a few centuries old) as opposed to Armenians (Yerevan alone is around 2000 years old)?

Please take note that I am not talking about those who have left Armenia during the veeery harsh first years of independance, and who had no other choice but to leave. I am talking about those who are born and raised in the diaspora, and have lived economically comfortable lives.

I first thought about that whole Roman empire= America thing when I first moved here(California) 5 years ago... and I felt like crap... I felt like we're(my family) such followers...

How many Armenians would dare leave their self serving life of materialism and "opportunities" and actually move back for Armenia or sacrifice their self for the greater whole? Hardly any. It's just the way things go. As Metallica said, Sad but true.

I guess that's where it all ends. The only armenians who would be moving back are those who wouldn't mind driving a Niva instead of a beamer, as long as they truly are happy. The ironic part is that driving the beamer has now become the definition of being "happy". Oh well, it's up to the rest of us to go there, and then watch the other "proud armenians" come flying in as soon as Armenia has reached prosperity.

The "best feeling in the world" thread has brought up a question that I was thinking of bringing up lately.

Of the posters here, how many plan to settle in Armenia? I mean, we're all talking about "mer doone hos che" and singing "kele lao, kele yertank mer yergir", but how many are actually considering or have considered living in Armenia. Why would you? Or why not?

bah, what armenians don't understand is that Armenia is another country going through the harsh transition between communism and capitalism. It has only been eleven years, and we're all expecting Armenia to be a super power tomorrow. It's gonna take time to turn Armenia into what we want it to be, but sitting here and xxxxxing is the last thing needed. Everybody that has been to Armenia tells me that the situation is getting better and better, and I choose to believe them. And even if it were getting worse, I'd still choose to go and live there, because it would then be our duty to reverse the situation.
