This isn't a vent thread. This is a thread to talk about when you have been treated with disrespect.
About a week ago, we had a customer come in. She told me we did minor work on her car, an oil change and brakes, and that less than 40 miles later, her engine overheated. We told her to tow the car here, and we'd pay for it. I was alone at work that day. No mananger.
She brought it in, and we took a look at it, and we realized it was because of her radiator. The diagnostic test someone did for her said the same. She claims we left the radiator cap loose. We never touched it. However, the paperwork we gave her, said we "Topped All Fluids". Even though we didn't touch the radiator, it kind of seems like we must have, if we topped it off.
That next day, she came in when I was off, and told my mananger I had an attitude when I spoke to her, and I wouldn't "understand where she came from." Get the fuuuuck out of here. I was nothing but nice. And fuck my manager. My uncle owns this shop, and nothing he says will do anything to my position. So complain all you want. And my uncle can't fire me, the reason this store is still up is because I'm here to run it for him. (Okay, that part was venting).
Anyway, she blamed us. We had to rebuilt her engine. All she agreed to pay for was parts, which was $400. My manager look care of all this after, it was his customer anyways. So, today, we got the engine in the car, and we realized it wouldn't start. Not enough compression getting sent to it. Failed. We needed a new engine. Junkyard gave us a price of $600.
I called the customer's boyfriend, who was in charge of all of this, and told him the following:
"Sir, it seems like the engine isn't going to work as we planned. During the process, it looked like it would work fine, but the car isn't getting enough compression sent to the pistons - so it won't start. I was wondering if you would agree to pay $800, the price of a new engine, and we wouldn't charge you any additional labor."
He ended up cussing at me, telling me we should've known about it earlier. He's a big black guy, by the way. So, then, he told me he was coming down in 15 minutes, and that he wanted to talk to me face-to-face with the mechanic. He honestly seemed like he was going to kill me over the phone.
So, he came down, we spoke, then I asked if I could talk to him alone. I told him I understood what he was saying, and if he didn't hang up on me, and gave me a chance to talk, I was willing to compromise and pay the remaining $400 for the engine. He then calmed down, and realized he got mad without understanding me.
My point is, the dude didn't give me a chance to explain. First of all, it's not OUR fault your car blew up. We're nice enough to take care of it, with OUR own money, to avoid a lawsuit, and yet, you won't pay for the engine. The guy then turned around and told me he wanted to buy rims for his other car, AFTER this car was ready. I was like, "Damn. Look how cool we could've handled it. But you and your girlfriend are assholes, and treated me like SHIT, this whole process."

Keep in mind that if these ppl walk away satisfied then perhaps the business you'll gain will outweigh the costs, or if they still talk crap to their friends about the experience perhaps if their friends are like them you don't need/want their business anyway ...
... I had already paid so I went and got the money back and had the truck smogged at a smog only station (had to) and after some back and forth and explaning, they passed it.
