          Which non-African country officially treated blacks equally? Countries don't treat human rights issues this way, do they? I haven't heard of it anyway... And that is what we're talking about here: human rights.

            Haiti? They were and still are equally slaves Human rights are political talking points in societies that are segregated by class.

              Yes, there are large class differences. I'm not talking about those things though they are important. What we are talking about is a more basic human right. What if we told the lower class that they can't have a legally recognized marriage? This is really not very different.

                The lower class have nothing to gain from a legally recognized marriage which is why most of them have kids out of wedlock. They are sort of exempt from the laws that bind the middle class.
