Legalizing prostitution not only benefits prostitutes and clients but also our economy. Legal prostitutes in Holland are protected by law and healthcare, have a choice for clients, may even promote to the more commercial "red-light" district and have to pay taxes like all of us.
As for those who oppose prostitution or anything that comes close to it, I invite you to look at many of the personal ads that are endorsed on Armenian Club. Some of these (very young) girls look like they have just stepped out of a porn movie. In no particular order, here's only a small random selection:
I agree with patlajan in the sense that I doubt anyone would choose prostitution given a choice. But that doesn't mean we should legislate against it ... just as much as it doesn't make sense to legislate against cleaning toilets. I doubt any reasonable person CHOOSES a life of cleaning toilets but yet there are those who do it.
The negative connotations associated with prostituion is more of a product of what's acceptable and what isn't in society. We are taught to believe prostitution is bad so naturally we learn to accept it as such.
I think the reason prostitution is illegal is because of the fear that the conservatives have of it destroying the moral fabric and thus society with it. I think that places faaaaaar too great of an importance over sex than there should be.
I don't see how being a janitor has life long negative effects, or how it affects society. So I don't think that analogy is valid.

Read some of their hobbies and occupations. I personally could care less how these girls want to present themselves or what they do in real life. They are free to make whatever choices they want, just like the owner of this site is free to do whatever he wants. I merely made an observation that I'm sure most, if not all, on this forum had already made. Just underlining it for those who scream degrading.
by legalizing prostitution we would say that it is OK to be a prostitute and at the same time it incourages more young girls to choose prostitution as a carrier and sell your body instead of getting a proper education.

While you folks discussed prostitution for the past week, hookers racked in a total of 2 million dollars nationwide. Now imagine if a prostitute would get a dollar from all the posts about prostitution she would have 129 dollars.

If that were the case, you would be their most significant sponsor.
Basically the entire argument in this thread has come down to "prostitution is bad, girls are stupid, so let's make it illegal to protect them from making this huge mistake in life because so many of them are going to go and become prostitutes if it were legal". Obviously I disagree.
