what do you think of when you hear prostitution?
does it sound positive or negative? WOhooooo youre a prostitute, oh well go for it girl! Do what you think is right! Yeah you need money, why not! huh?

It doesnt matter if a few girls (of the majority) doesnt think its a ugly job to be a prostitute, or they even think its fun. The majority of prostitutes in the world are not prostitutes with their own will, but they have been driven too, or else they may starve to death or their family, and in a lot of cases they are just kidnapped and sold, wich frequently happens in some parts of the world even in 'Europe'.

... again, here I would draw parallel to the porn industry. The actors and actresses are protected under the umbrella of the law and enjoy benefits such as regular checks for diseases etc. Just recently the porn industry in southern california was temporarily shut down due to a health scare. This would NEVER happen if it was some sort of black market hidden underground operation like prostitution is right now.

Note that I'm not saying have no laws regarding prostitution. But something like strippers and stripping where in certain places and under certain conditions (i.e. keep underage kids away etc) it would be allowed.
These women choose to put themselves in danger. They wouldn't have to worry about getting raped or killed if they got a real job. Yes, they should be ashamed of selling their body on the streets like that.

I understand the porn industry has regular check ups. But who in their right mind would take that risk? Not only will they be hurting themselves, but to they're loved once as well. Not to mention the divorce rate will go shy high. I could see it now, married men going to a wh0re houses as soon as they get into a small argument with their wives.

As for keeping underage kids away... Under age kids have snuck into bars and strip clubs all the time. What makes you think they can't do the same with prostitutes?

      • I agree with patlajan in the sense that I doubt anyone would choose prostitution given a choice. But that doesn't mean we should legislate against it ... just as much as it doesn't make sense to legislate against cleaning toilets. I doubt any reasonable person CHOOSES a life of cleaning toilets but yet there are those who do it.

The negative connotations associated with prostituion is more of a product of what's acceptable and what isn't in society. We are taught to believe prostitution is bad so naturally we learn to accept it as such.

I think the reason prostitution is illegal is because of the fear that the conservatives have of it destroying the moral fabric and thus society with it. I think that places faaaaaar too great of an importance over sex than there should be.

I would only hope that my marriage is not based on such flimsey foundations that the mere existence of a prostitute would make it fall apart.

Could you please tell me what the difference is between cheating with a prostitute and a regular girl?

            • but If you would legalize it it would get things worse for those girls who are forced by porverty into prostitution. So what if its good to have prostitutes if a man feels lonely he can go and get some warmth and sex. It's not at all about sex who cares about the man in the first place, as Patlajan said it cheapens human life, the girls life who is forced to prostutute herself to sell her body/herself in other words with all the risks that is involved.

              • By the way, how come every time the topic of prostitution comes up, someone jumps up crying how it will destroy marriages. If that's the case, why not legislate and make adultery illegal instead of prostitution? Last time I checked, there was no law against having sex outside of marriage yet a major complaint against prostitution usually comes in the form of husbands and wives.

If you want to protect marriage, legislate laws regarding marriage ... make the husband responsible for straying. Why make the ENTIRE society responsible for married folk and their indescretions?

In other words, just because marriages can suffer, why make it illegal for an unmarried person to seek the services of a pro?

Married people should not cheat. They take an oath of monogamy when they marry.

Then you must not have heard the recent news that the porn industry is shut down because of an HIV outbreak in their. Yep. No "law" is going to protect you from this.
