Okay folks... I'm trying out validating users manually. That should limit the spam, I hope. I suppose if I spend the same amount of time going through those as I do deleting spam, it'll be a wash as far as my time is concerned.

Perhaps when the members pay dues for the upkeep of the site it be will collectively owned and operated. Until then, the owner of the site decides the rules and selects the moderators.

I have an idea, how about everytime a new member puts a link in his first 5 posts the message comes out " Siggie knows I am a spamer", or something like that.
You can usually tell before they've even posted anything. I delete most spammers before they post at all. It's the ones in the evening and overnight that get by because I'm typically not on then.

Yes, we use both of those features. I'll consider it... I just hate for people to have to wait until I can review their posts or approve their membership.

But let's not have the argument about what Armenians are like here please.

I don't know what the current registration procedures are, but for most forums nowadays, where the applications are automated, the membership application requires you to fill in a letter/number verification box to prove you are human, and then sends out an email with a link that you need to visit as a second stage to the verification. Is this how it is set up here? And some forums require the first few posts by new members to be checked by moderators before their posts show up. I don't think legitimate new registrants would mind waiting - if they were legitimate they would probably have been browsing the forum for some time before deciding to be members anyway.
