Its embarrassing the level of youth contributions we get at these events in the US. In turkey they have nothing to protest and they have thousands of kids out marching chanting about the second coming of the genocide and taking Yerevan. We who have some of the greatest injustices to fight against have youth who mostly don't even know what sumgait is.

Idiot kids are 99% of the time results of either idiot parents or parents who don't get involved enough with their children.

I am seeing less and less of us every year......we will not get anywhere like this. I talk to few of our youth when I was there, at least they feel very strong about it and one of them told me that he will serve in Artsakh army soon.

It is just not enough of us, this is why we loose this information war.

True, and also people bogged down by work commitments that disable them to participate. The Khojaly myth is an easy thing to crack, I can't believe we have fallen behind this much. We need something like Aliyev foundation.

To the person who wants to serve in Artsakh army, I hope (given he is a diasporan) gets automatic citizenship for serving.

I don't think it's just people bugged down, I think a lot of us have given up. Every president says they will say the Word! But they don't even have the balls to say a word!

We should remember this for ever, and when the time is right avenging this is the only solution. What do you people think the toork will ever stop being an animal? Do you think these guys in office even care about history when they don't even care about their own? American politicians getting kickbacks from toorks. Caught, and yet where is the story it is not on the news. You know the Chews are laughing their arse off, happy in bed with the toorks. This was not just a crime back then, this is an ongoing crime. You can't even get the property that is in American banks back.

lol I was standing next to him, and tried to stop him from drawing the swastika (we pay alot of money for these things) but he was so adamant about it, and he said we are from Azerbaijan and I had relatives in sumgait, I couldn't say anything.

SECURITY & POLITICS



February 20 marked the anniversary of the Artsakh’s liberation movement.



Members of the U.S. Congress commemorate the victims of the Sumgait and Baku pogroms, and reiterate their support to Artsakh’s security.



Artsakh’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the events in Khojaly in 1992. The statement was later distributed in the UN.



International conference took place in Stepanakert with participation of local and international scholars. Dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Artsakh’s independence, the event touched upon the NKR development and role in the international processes.



ECONOMY & BUSINESS



Artsakh explores international practice and different models of agricultural development. Recently, Karabakh officials have visited Israel for studying the agrarian sector of the country.



Valex company, the biggest tax payer in Artsakh, continues exploring new reserves in the republic to ensure the company’s increased presence in the NKR



SOCIETY



“Karabakh: Hidden Treasure” documentary of Jivan Avetisyan was presented in Stepanakert. The screening and production of the film was organized by the NKR Tourism department and Yerkir Media TV.



NKR State prosecutor’s body registered crime reduction during its annual meeting. In 2011, it recorded 368 crimes in comparison with 467 cases in 2010.



HISTORICAL REFERENCE



On February 26-29, 1988, the Azeri town of Sumgait (hundreds of miles away from Nagorno Karabakh) became the scene of mass pogroms and brutal killings of ethnic Armenians. The massacre claimed dozens of innocent lives, setting a dangerous precedent which was later repeated in Baku and elsewhere in Azerbaijan. Conducted with the connivance of the Azeri authorities, the tragedy never saw a comprehensive investigation; the organizers and perpetrators remain unpunished. Commemoration of the Sumgait genocide took place in Artsakh, Armenia and dozens of states worldwide.



Instead of repenting for its actions, Azerbaijan tries to escape responsibility for committing the genocide in Sumgait, and other crimes against Armenians by misinforming the international community about the killings of civilians near Khojaly. In February, 1992, Azeri civilians who managed to leave from Khojaly via a corridor provided by Armenian forces, were consequently sacrificed for the political purposes and many of them murdered by Azeri troops near Azerbaijani-controlled Aghdam, a town seven miles away from Khojaly proper. The fact was supported by then Azeri President Ayaz Mutalibov, who had been dethroned later in 1992, as well as by Azeri and international journalists.

PM: Anti-Armenian banners during Khojaly rally work of ‘raving racists'

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said anti-Armenian banners unfurled during an İstanbul rally held on Feb. 26 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly Massacre reflect the feeling of some “raving racists,” not those of the Turkish people.

“These banners do not reflect the feelings of Turkey but those of a few raving racists. … Necessary [legal] action has already been taken. But it is unjust to overshadow the rally marking the massacre by a few worthless banners. Nobody has the right to damage the image of Turkey based on these exceptional scenes,” Erdoğan said.

A group of protesters held banners and chanted racist slogans against Armenians during the rally, which organizers said cast a shadow over the peaceful nature of the event. The slogans caused much outrage among the Turkish public.

A statement released by the Turkish Interior Ministry on Wednesday said it is impossible to justify “some slogans and banners” during the rally, referring to the offensive banners. The statement added that legal proceedings have been launched to find these people and groups, adding that the İstanbul Governor's Office is working to identify these people.
