Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

if that is all we have achieved in thousands of years of existence as a nation then there is little to be proud about.
Well, I don't go around beating the crap of everyone who pisses me off out of fear (of going to prison) as well. What you say about that?

I'd say fear works well as a deterrent.

It does happen among Armenian couples though!

My aunt's husband beat her and her children for over a decade before any of them mustered the courage to tell anyone. I'm grateful that you all aren't thinking like abusive men, but I think they count on being able to coerce their victims into silence, so they're not very fearful of people finding out and hunting them down. They make people feel worthless, like they deserve to be beaten, it's their fault for pushing him to do it, what will people think of her?, if she leave him no one else will want her, if she leaves or tells anyone, he'll kill her/their children, etc.

I know plenty of armenian men who beat their wives and kids and the wife's brothers didnt do xxxx. Typical armenian machismo -ill kill the guy who does this n that- but inn reality the fear from the law and self preservation prevents many of these brothers from interfering plus often the victimized sister asks that they do not interfere. Women do need a better way to protect themselves from abuse besides the -my brother will beat u up bit- plus some women do not have brothers. It is unfortunate indeed that abusing the law allowes many women to get away with false accusations but there is no good answer available-perhaps a good star to fixing the problem would be to not compensate layers based on the ampount of the money their client recieves if she wins the case. Men are at a disadvantage in most states because of the law but without these laws women would be by far at a greater disadvantage so things are not good and could even be much worst but to make it better the layer must suffer which is just fine by me.

Laws don't stop abuse, they act after the fact. I don't know any Armenian men that beat their wives or children but then again, my connection is to Western Armenians. I know lots of immigrants have issues that puts strain on their families. My neighbour who was from Portugal ended up being an alcoholic who beat his wife after his kids made poor choices in life and his family was ruined. His son was 2 years older than me and had 2 kids during high school and then dropped out and was on welfare. There are lots of factors that lead to destructive behaviour and it's not as simple as "making laws" to prevent them.

How about the WA man who shot his wife and 3 daughters in Griffith Park some years back. I believe the surviving 2 daughters are now living in Canada.
My aunt's husband was abusive before they ever immigrated to the US. We shouldn't make excuses for people. Everyone should have an alternative way of dealing with stress than to beat their wife or break their 7-year old's shoulder.

The laws are of limited help because the trouble with most who break them is that they never believe they're going to get caught. If they did, they wouldn't be breaking them!

I'm referring to people I know personally.... shouldn't make excuses for people? So I guess everyone is born perfect, has no problems whether financial or personal and the world is a happy go lucky place. Not sure what you're smoking but pass it over.

People who break laws aren't afraid to get caught, they have nothing left to lose. You think terrorists would cross borders where lawful citizens would cross?

So if you knew this was going on, what did you do about it?

Wth? Since when is a little personal responsibility a bad thing? I'm not saying that xxxxty things don't happen to everyone. If my boss chews me out and I'm having money troubles, my house might be foreclosed on, my car needs repair, my child is sick, etc. and I lose my temper with a rude sales associate and punch them in the face, does all of that make my behavior excusable?

Even when I'm basically agreeing with you, you find a way to disagree? I said MOST who break laws. You go and point out an example from the subset of terrorists?

What excuse did your boss have for chewing you out, why do you have money troubles, why are people taking your home away from you and why doesn't anyone give a sh!t about your problems and fix your car for free? The fact is in Western society, you're on your own and nobody gives a sh!t about your problems. They have their own.

I didn't disagree, I added an additional myth to the equation. Laws are made for people who follow them. People who don't follow laws don't care how many are written in the books.
