Armenia's Orthodox Church is a keystone in our nation's identity, and thus part of what our patriotism has sought to protect from both assimilation and conquest.

Yes it is but it is irrelevant for today. If someone believes in Allah but is an Armenian patriot it doesn't really make any difference to me. Besides, not only the Armenian Orthodox Church played a major role.

The modern Armenian nationalism and ethnic consciousness derives largely due to the Venetian Armenian Mechitarists Order of the San Lazzaro island in Venice (it is until today under Armenian jurisdiction granted by the Holy See) They educated many Armenians, printed books, the Alphabet and many other activities at times were these things did not exists for the Armenians and they did all these long before 1700. They are one of the greatest Armenian patriots.

A good leader will always use religion to rally the masses behind some cause, as Napoleon once said, "if I were governing a nation of xxxs, I would rebuild the temple of solomon. religion is a good tool to keep the common man occupied."

The Holy Quran was already published in Armenian at least three times :

. 1910, Varna, translated from Arabic by Apraham Amirkhaniants (1838-1913)
. 1911, Constantinople, translated from French pby Levon Larents
. 1912, Varna, (& life of Mohammed), from the edition of Amirkhanian and other writer knowing Arabic, compiled by Hagop Kourbétian

In the XVII th Century, the Holy Quran was translated from Latin by Stepanos LEHATSI (a Polish Armenian who emigrated to Etchmiadzine after the forced Roman Catholic conversion of the Galicia Armenian community by the Poles). The manuscrit is in the Madenataran and has more than 200 leaves (from the famous "Bibliography" of Hakop. S. Anassian. Yerevan 195?).
