            Hezbollah: LAF readied after incursion

An Israeli military bulldozer violated the Lebanese territory, occasioning the state of combat readiness, the group said in a broadcast on the al-Manar channel, the United Press International (UPI) reported on Tuesday.

It, however, said that the bulldozer had been stopped by the forces of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which is on a mandate to patrol the south of Lebanon.

Israel is obliged by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended 2006 Israeli offensives on Lebanon, to stay out of the country's soil. About 1200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed during the war, which was fought off by Hezbollah.

Early last month and in a move that notably aggravated the tense regional situation, Israeli troops entered Lebanese soil, triggering an exchange of fire with the Lebanese Army. Three Lebanese soldiers, a Lebanese journalist from the Beirut-based al-Akhbar newspaper and one senior Israeli Army officer were killed in the crossfire, which also resulted in injuries on both sides.

Tel Aviv as well orders violations of the Lebanese airspace on an almost daily basis under a pretext of surveillance.

The provocations follow April claims by Israel and the United States that Syria supplies Hezbollah with Russian-made Scud missiles.

Damascus, Beirut and the Hezbollah resistance movement itself have categorically rejected the claim.

Hezbollah , mostly shias.. have huge birth rates.. 20 - 25 years later they will be lebanon.
The Lebanese are fairly nice people and Lebanon at one time was a very prosperous country.

It's my understanding that most Lebanese are Christians. At least when you count those who live out side of Lebanon. Israel mostly likely has it's eyes on Lebanese water resources and if the Israelis roll in hard, Hezbollah are pretty doomed.

Not while the regime in Iran supports Hezbollah.

As far as i know there are atleast 3 armenian villages in lebanon, with bourge hamoud (that's where nasrallah was born) being an known armenian neighborhood in Beirut since a long time ago. Armenian population has been immigrating in the last 30 years, now it's almost 200k left, from probably up to half a million 30 years ago. I think they should get out while they can, lebanon will become an islamic xxxxehole in the next few decades (the south is already a xxxxehole)

LEBANON: Wikileaks reveals cable saying defense minister gave Israel invasion advice [Updated]

                    December 2, 2010 | 7:33 am

Lebanon-murr-epa Lebanon's Defense Minister Elias Murr told Americans the army would stay out of the way if Israel tried to wipe out Hezbollah, according to a secret March 2008 conversation revealed in a diplomatic cable revealed by WikiLeaks.

[Updated at 7:53 a.m.: The cable originated from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut and was sent to the State Department in Washington.]

"Making clear that he was not responsible for passing messages to Israel, Murr told us that Israel would do well to avoid two things when it comes for Hizbollah," the cable read.

"One, it must not touch the Blue Line or the UNSCR 1701 areas as this will keep Hizbollah out of these areas," the memo read, referring to the southern Lebanese area now patrolled by thousands of international troops.

"Two, Israel cannot bomb bridges and infrastructure in the Christian areas," Murr was cited as saying.

The exact nature of Hezbollah's relationship to the state is not entirely clear, although the group's aim of confronting Israel is enshrined in the government policy statement and enjoys support across Lebanon.

A 2006 war was fought mainly between the Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah forces while the Lebanese army stood back. Any assistance or cooperation between the Lebanese army and Israel would be considered treason by many Lebanese, and Murr's assessments could easily be read as tacit collaboration.

The document is especially incriminating as Murr, a member of Lebanon's Christian community, is a presidential appointee, part of a supposedly neutral third bloc in the government.

"Murr is trying to ascertain how long an offensive would be required to clean out Hizballah... The LAF will move to pre-position food, money, and water with these units so they can stay on their bases when Israel comes for Hizbollah -- discreetly, Murr added," the cable read. "For Murr, the LAF's strategic objective was to survive a three week war 'completely intact' and able to take over once Hizbollah's militia has been destroyed."

The cable was published Thursday by the Lebanese daily Al Akhbar, which was given an advance copy of the documents by WikiLeaks.
