If it becomes less dependent on the West and strengthens its ties with the rest of the Muslim world (but still keeping ties with West).

Why the hell would the Turks want to become the "leaders" of that crowd? The entire Arab world is a house of cards and the region is increasingly moving towards a state of anarchy.

Leadership is not a title that you carry nor a medal that you wear.

A leader typically has a respectful record, certain qualities and abilities which commands the respect of its peers.

Before a candidate is put forward for leadership his record (history), qualities and abilities ( civil society) should be scrutinised.

A leader forced upon a country is the same as colonisation.

Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

Turkey more or less does what the West wants it to do....acting as a proxy in ME as well, even under Erdogan.

When Turkey is destroyed than it will be good for Armenia.

                  Nice one Yedtarts!

No, turkey is not a regional leader. They have tense relations with the Greeks and Syrians, although there has been a thaw recently. Furthermore, they have no relations with Armenia, so they automatically can't lay any leadership role in the Caucasus.

In my opinion Iran is better poised to be a regional leader, and once the US leaves Iraq, we will indeed start to see an increase of Iranian leadership in the region. Iran has decent to good relations with its neighbors (unlike turkey), has a large population, and is rich with natural resources (again unlike turkey). If they do not mess with Russia's dominant position in the Caucasus, and instead attempt to form an axis with Moscow and Beijing they have much to gain.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

I think countries should mind their own business and get their own house in order before trying to be leader for other countries.
