He didn't confiscate from his own population as general policy, just from those that owned land and were actively involved in usury. He also didn't forgive the debts that the general population had due to living the lifestyle of drunken sailors. Like I said, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Perhaps you need to read more about the subject to realize why there are landmarks named after him. Sure he inherited a Kingdom at its height but what would you do differently if you inherited the most powerful Kingdom in Europe? We're not talking about puppets like Bush or Obama here.... but actual Kings who had power over their subjects.

WE don't have more knowledge. There is more knowledge in the world as a collective force which has accumulated over time but a lot of that knowledge is privatized (not accessible by the public).

What does make you say that we don't? I would say most people don't have an interest in accessing the knowledge that is out there. Knowledge today is more available to the public than it was at any other point in history.

When atheists do run across believers who are extremely intelligent (those who devote their lives towards noble causes) they will belittle them saying things like "how could someone so brilliant believe in fairy tales".

We aren't more evolved than our ancestors but we do have more knowledge because our knowledge is build upon their knowledge. The generation that came after us will built their knowledge upon ours and so on.

The general population will always be uneducated it was so during the middle ages, classical ages, during the industrial revolution and so it is today.

Especially when people today claim they are "evolved" and more intelligent than our ancestors when they have never read a book and their knowledge comes from sitting their butt down in front of the TV for half of their pathetic life.
