Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

isnt it strange that we are going through this and yet people all over the world consider people like you [bejuk] and I as lucky people?
"they trust me with this? HOLY SH!T, amazing..."
How many times have I asked myself the same question while at work? In the beginning it was too many to count. Now I am resigned to the work that I do and because I've been doing it for so long it's become 'not a big deal' to me. I start to think that it's not such a big deal that I am dealing with this DNA project or that cloning cell line, blah blah blah. It starts to freak me out though when I tell people what I do, and they are incredulous that I should be doing what I do and not off trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. The fact that they seem so taken aback or impressed by it makes me question my abilities even though I know I am doing a damn good job. You know? At 22 it's also a tad amusing to be surrounded my people aged 35-60, doing the same work I do, all aiming for the same end goals (granted, I have obviously less responsibility than the 60 year old head of the lab).

As for being 'lucky'. I've heard that one too. Oh you're lucky you know what you want to do with your life and you've found this job that fits you so well. So what?! I thought I wanted to be so many things when I was younger, Marine Biologist, Pediatrician, and now, Scientist. So what? Does this mean that I don't have my own stress and trouble and nagging doubts about my job and my life in general? Of course I do! On top of which I have a job to do that I have to wake up and rush to every morning and stay until I get done, no matter if I was supposed to go home two or three hours ago, without overtime pay! Not that I'm complaining, I mean I know I could be stuck in a job I hate and I could be hating every minute I am at work. I love being here. But, that doesn't mean it's perfect or everything is great, super super. People seem to forget that.

So, since I have no family ties (as in husband, children, etc) that keep me here with people to take care of, I take every opportunity I have for a weekend away and make the best of it, because it's necessary, it really is. I spent the last two years working and going to school at night, it sucked big time, I seriously had no time to myself. I have nothing but work this year and since I don't work on the weekends I have ample opportunity to get away. Do you work on the weekends? If you don't you should seriously milk them for all you can.

Good luck on the GMAT (going to business school?). I heard they're not too bad. Hey, don't you guys have Memorial day off? We do at Caltech so I assume you must too, unless you have to come in and finish work (I hate having to finish work on Saturdays). It's gorgeous out and we're close enough to the beach, you should make time even if you don't think you have any.

They're in awe of you, as they should be.
It is hard not to question yourself though. It's good to have friends around to reassure you that you kick ass when you do it though.

I've been working here for almost a year now and became 'permanent' after two months of working here, rather than the standard six, and yet, yeaterday, when I found out how many people applied for the position I got, I got so freaked out that they would just take it away from me and give it to someone else I had all the self-doubt all over again.

                  silly me.

Good lord woman, take a weekend off! Surely they give you vacations. We have a very nice vacation package here, don't you?? Oh man, business school on top of that, eh? Good luck!

We're so mean here dude. So Monday the undergrad Seniors had their annual ditch day and the girls in my lab spent the day joking about how they are all probably hiding in a library somewhere having a big group study session. lol. We suck. Soemtimes I feel like I am not geek enough for this school. And then I look at my pocket protector (on my lab coat, ok?).

Why is that mean? Is it not something they would do?

OMG!!! You get to wear a lab coat?! I'm sooo jealous. Hmph.
Sometimes I wish I was neuro psych or bio psych so I could wear a lab coat, then I remember that I don't want to be slicing frozen mouse brains.
