Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Contrary to the inanity uttered by the Anahita, open borders is a stupid idea. Civilizations do not last with open borders.

If you think that is crazy, you should consider the amount of heavy border regulation and police Mexico has on its border with Guatemala! Yet the Mexican government begs and demands that the U.S. government somehow not do the same? When it comes to their borders it's all about protection, but when they want to go into another country, they ask for compassion.

I'm sorry Anahita, but your nonsensical hippie kumbaya mentality doesn't work. The world is not a borderless bliss, and contrary to what hippies, leftists and other of your stripes believe, there is an old saying:

          "Fences make good neighbors".

And also Anahita, stop spamming with endless links. I have noticed you can't discuss or enter into any dialogue, it's just a one woman show of you just mindlessly posting crap everywhere.

Anonymouse, I do enter into dialog. You aren’t paying close attention. With some of this you don’t understand—nor would I expect you to understand all of this. I also mentioned that even if you don’t understand something at first, or misunderstand, you will likely understand later. What I’ve been teaching and doing sometimes requires some ambiguity, links, etc. in my posts. You don’t need to understand how or why. Now that I’ve got the ‘ball running’ on several things I can spend more time on fun with purpose.

I mentioned before that I’ve picked on you before because you are smart and seem to genuinely reflect on your ideas and consider new ways of thinking. You’ve been doing that over the last few weeks. Still, I think that you have some mental categories and beliefs that block you from understanding things on a deeper level.

I started a thread to address the issue (and logic) of working towards no borders. We must work towards this--bringing others up--or we'll all go down.

Imagine no borders and how to get there

              Imagine no countries--John Lennon

Responding first to Sip and Anonymous (re: we can't have open borders.) I said that we should, we must, work towards a situation where borders are not even needed (countries, natural areas, etc)—nature and wildlife do not ‘obey’ these artificial lines. No, we can’t just open all borders right now. But we must imagine the situation where we can for the future. We create the future world we all imagine—literally. Previous generations imagined sky scrapers, toxic chemicals, weapons... they created (worked towards) the kind of world they visualized.

WE can IMAGINE a different kind of future. I'll talk about this in terms of nature protection--parks and so on. The logic is the same. You can think of this as somewhat analagous to the country border issue. The US is like an 'elite' bordered by the 'being harmed lands' like Mexico. That is life boat ethics and ultimately will sink the whole 'ship.' A life raft floating in a sea of desperation of others will be pulled down when others start to drown.

This thread is a branch from the 'Bush Weighs Deploying Guard to U.S. (border)'

Protected places (parks, biosphere reserves, wilderness areas, and other similar kinds of protected places) cannot be surrounded by a sea of wasteland—where forests are clearcut, poisons dumped on the land, people are starving and so on. Protected areas and wildlife in the US would be harmed if people had no option but to invade them to meet basic needs (as occurs all the time in many poor countries.) Expecting to protect nature the planet (which keeps humanity alive) to be 'saved' in isolated reserves alone is naïve. Some have accused those who defend wild places, endangered species, and aesthetic concerns as elitist (called green conservation in academia). I think that is because the environmental movement hasn’t (until recently) simultaneously paid attention to the multiple other ecological/humanitarian issues (called brown conservation in academia.) Brown conservation includes: environmental racism, pollution, GM crops, world hunger, medical/disease, war and violence and many other issues.

In much of the industrial world, this (either/or) preserve/protect vs. destroy mentality has caused tremendous harm to lands that aren’t in protected status. I am certainly NOT suggesting that the protected areas be opened for exploitation—in the industrial world (and not to industrial commodity extraction, anywhere). I am suggesting making the rest of the land (outside preserves and similar that doesn't have some protected designation) is regenerated to a natural condition or more like the preserve (where sustainability is the rule and basic needs of people are met).

So we need to keep the protected areas protected and model the rest of land use after, for example: Menominee forestry practices, agroforestry, permaculture (http://www.permaculture.co.uk/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permaculture)

Non-sustainable land use cannot even be a category.

Because all forms of oppression serve to mutually reinforce each other, I go after all at once (‘ecofeminism’—a better way for all!)

All of these issues are connected. They come from a way of thinking that is unhealthy. We need a paradigm shift. We need to demand that money currently going to war and weapons go instead to protect nature and meet the needs of the world's population. Anyway, who attacks Switzerland?

                  Sip makes very relevant points.

The Rape of the Well-Maidens: Feminist Psychology and the Environmental Crisis. in Ecopsychology: Restoring the Earth, Healing the Mind. (a book I’ve mentioned a few times before, including on the book thread http://forum.armenianclub.com/showth...?t=2105&page=2)

                  The Rape of the Well-Maidens

“There is an old Grail story, ‘The Tale of the Well-Maidens,’ that speaks to many of our current environmental dilemmas. The story goes as follows:

Long, long ago, even before the reign of King Arthur, the land was blessed with enchantment and great fertility. Throughout the realm, maidens stood guard over the sacred wells, offering their healing waters in golden cups to any journeyers who might pass. Indeed, some say that these were the very waters of inspiration, offering transport between worlds. The maidens themselves may have been Otherworldly, but the tale does not say. In those days, when the veil between the worlds was thinner, these distinctions were not so sharp.

All was well, with the land bounteous and the people content, until the King conceived a desire to possess one of the well-maidens. He stole her sacred cup, carried her off, and raped her. His men followed his example, raping the other maidens. In response to these unheard-of acts, these violations against nature itself, the maidens withdrew themselves and their magic from the world. The wells dried up, and the regenerative powers of the land were destroyed, leaving it barren and devoid of enchantment. By seeking domination over others, the King and his men had diminished the world.

This story illustrates a key insight of ecofeminism: that the despoiling of the Earth and the subjugation of women are intimately connected. It is not a coincidence that when women are raped, the land becomes parched and desolate, and when ‘feminine’ qualities are oppressed, the human mind is cut off from participation in the mystery and left with a disenchanted world. In patriarchal cultures, it is common to find patterns of domination and control aimed at both women and the land...

We believe that reawakening to the dynamic feminine is an important part of learning to live sustainably….More recently, the influence of the dynamic feminine can be seen in the bioregional movement…[Embracing the bioregional vision] means the death of the old industrial self and the birth of something new.”

Your mental myopia clogs your reasoning abilities since in any discussion, all you can do and do is post a blather of nonsense and expect to be taken seriously. Contrary to your assertion, you have not once engaged in any normal dialogue. Posting worthless links, images, and lyrics does not equate to proper dialogue, it equates to spamming. I don't know how self-absorbed and infatuated you may be with yourself, but this isn't the place where we are going to make an effort to understand that. We have even made an ankap thread to channel all such stuff to that direction. It seems all you are interested in is posting and reading your own posts, as this is the only avenue that you have found where you can post the regurgitated earth day politics incessantly and remind us in every thread. Since you began posting, you have been engaged in a one woman show of simply posting nothing except links and lyrics with highlighted text in between, often times to yourself, since no one else read or responded to your jibberish.

So let's get to the many flaws and assumptions you hold about borders and immigration. The mocking and elitist attitude you take is indicative of someone deeply dependent and immersed in their said ideology, what one would call an ideologue.

However, in order to address your argument about immigration we will need to point out a few things about humans, and that old cliche "human nature". Humans, aside from being spiritual beings, are also animals. In every human society since antiquity to the present, there have existed some form of borders and boundaries as a reflection of mans limitations. And since antiquity until present, there has always been a concept among man of property and possession. What belongs to one man, cannot at the same time belong to another (what Communists believe is the case). Since man is limited and still an still an animal, he separates himself into families, tribes and nations. Therefore, boundaries and borders have always reflected these human features. The world is not a borderless utopia like in John Lennon's "Imagine". Such utopian communist pipe dreams are precisely that.

There are those people who are ignorant and know it, as Plato pointed out, and then there are those who suffer from double ignorance, who are ignorant and don't know it. Most leftists and egalitarians who advocate borderless bliss are of the latter type since they believe humans have complete free will and will be able to peacefully coexist. Humans on the contrary are social beings who group themselves into races, nations, families, tribes, etc. That is a biological life force that cannot be absolved by mere ideology. As such, any attempts at the supposed dissolution of borders and boundaries is insane and reflects a serious lack of insight, intelligence and reality. While borders and boundaries are abstract and change over time, they are still a conceptual reflection of that society.

Groups flow down from races, nations, tribes, and down to individual families. I currently have a family and we own a house with clear property lines and boundaries. It is what separates what we have earned, built and is clearly ours, from that of my neighbors. The typical leftist would argue for the dissolution of these borders, but in doing so they are advocating the dissolution of private property. If there were no borders or boundaries for anyone, all property is hereby "collective" (the Communist dream) and is rightfully allowed to be used and occupied by everyone. Hence, if you take a shyt please don't whine when I come in and brush my teeth.
