What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

  • Armenian women: should play a bigger role in our economy, politics and military.

This topic is made to discuss the (future) role of Armenian women in our society.

In my opinion Armenian women are one of our nations greatest unused potentials.

We must promote Armenian women to be more active in our economy, in our politics and in the military. We need to get rid of our mentality that women ''should stay home all day and cook''.

Ofcourse, I like our culture and do not want it to be like the West where feminism has gone out of control, but I see the role of Armenian women as very important. In our history, women have always played a big role.

In my personal experience, I have seen that more girls are involved in patriotic and Armenian social organizations (in the Diaspora but also in Armenia) compared to boys, their potential is just huge.

I think it is also one of the smartest things to do to reach to all those Diaspora-Armenian girls, who think that we treat girls like a slave in Armenia.
If we could show to the outside world the huge role of women in our society, by promoting equality among men and women and by for exampling having a women as President would give our Armenia-Diaspora ties a big boost (I even think this could impact the damage of assimilation and attract girls from the Diaspora).

Also, more women should need to get involved in the military, especially in the logistical field, as medics, reservists and even as soldiers (but not at the front). We have enormous shortages and this would be a great opportunity to make our military more efficient and stronger.

The positive things of involving women in our economy is obvious and needs no further explanation.

Giving such liberation to women will do a lot of harm to the structure of Armenian family and thus Armenian society. We do not need cultural revolution now, we have more important to things to worry about (Karabakh, EU relations, etc). Women also have a lot of freedom in Armenia there is no shortage of that, so they shouldn't complain nor should we look to change it. I would even argue that to much of it is given to women especially in terms of dress.

Diasporan girls, most of the them at least, have been empowered with the concept of radical feminism preached by western culture which in turn has led them to assimlate, humiliate armenian reputation, and more worse things..

It is really sad to see that people like Mos still have such backward psychology. Unfortunatly he is not the only one who thinks this way. It is not liberated women that threaten us mr Mos - it is the likes of you that threaten our survival as a people. I would feel sorry for a girl who has you as a father.

Liberated women threaten in assimilation and because of that attract people like the Persian hooligans to fill up Yerevan. We are not French or Italian, as Armenians we have to keep the Armenian family and church because only with that does our identity survive. Liberated girls that only care about materials and sleeping with most men, will abandon families just to pursue their selfish desires.

If we were to bring Armenian church closer to the state than we could at least regulate government level that this doesn't happen. One idea is passing laws to encourage modest dressing in women.

I would not choke my daughter, but I would make sure she grows up with decency and modesty and doesn't grow up to be western wh-ore, that's all.

I agree and as you said women should not be forced to serve on the frontlines…………..unless they volunteer, they should have that choice I say. I don't know about being president or in high office or high military ranks but they should be allowed to be involved much more. They are a great asset and we loved them and must protect them.

You mean you never got the "I brought you into this world, I can take you out" speech from your father?

I think every woman in Armenia should dress like Xena: Warrior Princess

I agree with Tigranakert. Armenian women have a great self-interest that can be simultaneously served with their efforts to improve Armenia. Further, women also have a nurturing tendency that can be helpful in improving education, health, and social services. And I do not mean in the roles of teachers, nurses, etc, but also in administrative position in organizations and government.

Yes, this is one of the main things that drive women towards feminism-- When they believe that they are shackled down and the only way to free themselves is to completely rebel against the status quo. From what I can tell, thats exactly what happened in America, where for years women were told to stay in their place and shut their mouths. As soon as those women had a slither of daylight to rebel, they rebelled and as us Beirutsis say "Քաքը հանեցին". One of the main reasons (in my opinion) that some women became out of control is because they weren't "granted" liberty, they had to "take" liberty. If you keep women (or most anybody) bogged down in one extreme, they will jump to the next extreme as soon as they have the chance. Its the same concept with children who are brainwashed with religion and then grow up with a severe complex against religion.

However, if you keep women in some kind of middle ground, they are less likely to go to either extreme. A good way to do this is to gradually give women some empowerment so they don't feel the need to rebel. This way, they won't have a vendetta against the men in their society. I'm not saying women should be encouraged to work full-time and not raise a family. However, we should give them more responsibilities in society while at the same time putting a heavy emphasis on the importance of raising a family. If society as a whole recognizes the sacrifices and importance of being a mother, most women will also do the same. Maybe I'm naive, but thats what I think.

One of the problems with America is there is much less importance placed on the merits of being a mother (sacrifice), and more emphasis on the ego (selfishness) which is partly why we have all these problems.

Re: Armenian women: should play a bigger role in our economy, politics and military.

                    hi to all
Im very open minded person I think women should be involved in anything and everyting. I believe in general total equality in men and women. i think in the west feminist are taking it little bit too far that's because they are orgenised in lobbying and men are not. Im not talking about Eastern society or muslem society in which there are horors. Even in our Armenian societies not just in Armenia actually i don't know about Armenia but in the diaspora as well just look at Syria and in less amout Lebanon. I am for any woman IF SHE IS QUALIFIED just like any man to reach to any position possible even presidancy or in the millitary in special forces or on the front line even make women to serve in the Army Im even willing to go that far. What makes western governments companies great and successfull is the fact a person who is qualified reaches. the right person (man or woman) in the right place to do a good job. For example if you look at a good candedate of a certain position just in men then you are elliminating half of the population which is incorrect thing to do.

BUT we have a huge problem in Armenia which is the population. As we know when a woman is uneducated, doesn't have career stays home brings more children than a woman working ... If getting women more involved in stuff will mean the decrease of birthrate Im against that because we are at critical point now we need the numbers.

So in conclusion we can't look to the western society and say it is the best choice and implement it as it is. neither we should look at the east ones implement that as it is and not even look at ourselves and keep on doing what we are doing now. My opinon is to make our Armenian sociologist to do seriouse research and come up with answeres, Armenian formula that will exploit the potential that women have (they present around 50% of Armenian population Im not saying women are smarter or vice versa its pure statistics) in the mean time not to decrease our birthrate and keep this studies going every once and a while for adjustment in the right direction
