Is it unrealistic to expect Turkey to compensate?

It isn't realistic to expect anything from anyone. Germany didn't compensate the jews for some alleged drama voluntarily, they did it because they had no choice in the matter and criminal turkey shouldn't have a choice either.

That's like saying the thief refuses to return the stolen goods. Actually it's saying exactly that. What if we had our Nuremberg trials and the judgment was in our favor and turkey had to return those lands? The azeris didn't want to give back NK either, that's for sure.

NO, those moneys paid to the descendants of the victims should be used to better their own lives and hopefully move back to Armenia and start over. There should be other monetary compensations made to the Republic of Armenia itself for all the damage they caused such as burned churches, schools, monastarties etc etc etc. But I will never give up one inch of land that rightfully belongs to the Armenian people. I will never accept the idea of criminal and genocidal turk savages living in the houses of my grandparents and enjoying the fruits of their crimes.

On one side we have Dashnaktsutyun wanting material compensation, on the other we have the president, Robert Kocharyan only wanting moral compensation. What are your thoughts?

Kocharian doesn't speak for diaspora Armenians, so he certainly doesn't speak for me. It's the diaspora Armenians who lost everything and we should be the ones who decide what we want or deserve as compensation in money and land. As for the "moral compensation", they can stick it up their turkish asses.

I want TOTAL compensation for ALL the damage they have done and I don't care if they have to work for free till the end of time to cover it. They will not keep one square inch of historical Armenian lands. All the lands should be returned to their rightful owners such as Constantinople to the Greeks, Cyprus for the Cypriots etc. The criminal states of turkey and azerbaijan should no longer exist. If the jews, Germans, Americans or whatever, like them so much, let them take them.

There is no what ifs... we didn't have a Nuremberg trial and Turkey has gotten away with it for 90 years. So it IS unrealistic to expect them to all of a sudden be like "here is Western Armenia, sorry for the inconvenience we've caused". Azeris didn't want to give back Karabagh, and they didn't. WE got it back using our men, they never returned it to us. And I believe if we want Western Armenia back, we gotta do the same. There is no way in hell they’re giving us a piece of land back.


How sad is the outcome of the poll though! The majority of Armenians on this forum don't want any compensation.... I'm disappointed...

You might think it's a joke. But I assure you it's not. The amount of hatred we feel for you country is not going to vanish quietly. There's going to be a clash between our countries sooner or later. Even if it takes 300 years more and the flames of our hatred are down, it will take just a little gust of memory to bring all the injustices and all of the thirst for justice back. Azeris, who we consider watered-down Turks, already felt that passion, when outnumbered and utterly behind in military weaponry we took Artsakh back. While Turkey's military is much more ready than Azerbaijan's, your moral readiness for such a war is as weak as that of Azeris. You will not be fighting for your ancestral blood-soaked earth back. So, no amount of laughing smilies can hide the fact that as Talaat Pasha predicted, no Armenian can forgive your country's deed. And the way your country is acting today only fuels our hatred more and more. So, good luck in future.

Your post was written in an excellent fashion, but needs to be expanded upon. When the BIG conflict comes, it won't be just Armenians fighting with passion and fury. turks like to ignore the fact that it wasn't only Armenians who had to endure their stinking presence. There were Greeks, Russians, Assyrians, Kurds, Serbs......most all of southeastern Europe. A lot of people can't wait to give them what's for. However, nobody is gonna give it to them like Armenians will. Also, I am just as sure that because of TECHNOLOGY, it isn't going to take any 300 years, either.

Now it's been started earlier that Kocharian said no land claims. The turks are often quoting that interview. But what they leave out is that Kocharian said that Armenia has no control or say-so over what diasporan Armenians do regarding land claims and reparations since they were the ones most directly affected by the AG.

What I really do NOT understand is these people who say "recognition only." What is with you people?

What, recognition without punishment??? What earthly purpose would it serve other than giving you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside? Who put this nonsense into your head and do you think you have the right to deprive others that think "recognition" or "apologies" absolutely do not cut it?

Stop your non-sense defamation of Turks and Turkey. Every nation has suffered some sort of genocide. 5 million turks was killed or expelled from European soil from 1890 until today. In th 1980's 300.000 turks had to flee from Bulgarian opression.

I have just one advice : GET OVER IT. If you armenians continue to live in the past, and view everything with 1915-glasses, you will never advance. You will get stuck with your nation and people.

Until then - know this : We turks will never ever admit anything. We will never ever let you get one square-inch of our lands. We will never ever forget the 847.000 turks that dashnaks killed during 1890-1915. We will never ever forget the 500 innocent jews you slaughtered. We will never ever give you one single dime in compensation. And in case "The Big War" breaks out - all what I have promised you we will not forget, will be ammunition for our souls when we invade Armenia, and kick you fellow citiziens back to the stoneages.
