Look you misunderstood, I was not trying to attribute 'being sexually promiscuous' to neither charm nor femininity. I was just comparing the two extremes and trying to show how exercising nudity is being perceived as charming/ charm in certain cultures (like in your dearest America, or Europe or…. So a majority of Diasporan Armenians are quite naturally being influenced..) while in some other cultures (Widely in Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc. and to a lesser degree in our villages mainly) women are practically hostage and are treated like a possession deprived of the very basic human rights (I have already given example on this but I can say more).

Hmmm.... I agree with you here. Although I think America (through pop culture) and Europe (through fashion and modeling) are perverting the beauty of the female body. But that's for an entirely different topic. As far as Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc. go... civility is something that has to develop slowly through society. Going from one extreme to the next through intervention by other cultures (Americ....cough) is like taking an ape, dressing it up in clothes and calling it a man. The men in these cultures have been so used to their way of life (not by their own choice, it's the way that they have been raised to perceive society) that by another culture coming in and interfering is what causes the men to go "ape". This is the point I've been trying to make, our Armenian culture isn't repressive.... its tasteful, it develops self esteem and security for the woman. However, that's only if they are RESPECTED by the men. Unfortunately, being exposed to other demeaning cultures, some of our men have lost this respect and have lowered themselves to the mentality of apes. I don't know how else to express my point of view. Imagine submersing yourself in luke-warm water and slowly turning up the temperature, you would slowly adapt to the change in your environment. Now, if you were to jump right into scolding hot water, there would be an instant shock to your system. I think this is what they call culture shock.

Okay first up though, Anoush, why the "drink like the Irish" thing, I know you probably didn't mean that offensively, but we the drunk Irish generally appeared during the forced removals and evacuation from starvation to America, Irish peopel weren't allowed to be hired in alot of places (NINA law, no Irish need apply) so many resorted to drinking because life was miserable (some people lsot their entire families and had nothing to live for), I know you didn't maybe mean to offend, still hurtful though

My best friend growing up was Irish, his father was Catholic, and his mother was Protestant... and no they weren't trying to kill each other

I see nothing wrong if a person has multiple sexual partners and they are single, regardless of what we might say, man has inside him (and woman) a carnal nature too, love is important, far more important than sex, but if you do not have someone to love, the indulgence (not compulsion) of lust is not negative (provided that procautions are observed), we cannot deny that he as human beings have sexual urges, it is after all natural, it ensures the continuance of the species

This model of behavior would work if everyone was classless and lived on the same social-economic level. I'm not sure which society you live in

Yes, unless the ingrediants are taken from her... as a result of which she'll forget how to cook, how to speak and how to play her instrument...

If done tastefully then it may be extra-charming, actually that's an ideal and it's more than what I'm wishing for. Personally, I find women/men who dare to express/be themselves to be refreshingly charming, unless they are being jerks or hideous. But one has to keep in mind that anything that is not part of the local culture runs the risk of being misunderstood, rejected and even vilified.

Coming back to the tomboy who "were not quite comfortable with their chest", were they subconsciously trying to become boys because the community continues to favor them?

Yea, this is kind of the limit. That's why I believe not everything that is being done willingly and with no sense of compliance can be considered charming.

I really don't know about that. You think it may be the case for most tomboys? The ones I saw were wearing tight (stretched) shirts under their T-shirt, in order to make their chest (which was pretty flat by the way, compared to average women) invisible. I was just curious to see if they were comfortable with their sexuality so I adressed one of them the question, she said she was pretty comfortable with being a woman and said she had never worn a dress before, lol. Then she told me that she has been asked a million times whether she is a lesbian...

Listen, I know you're trying to get a point across but could you be a bit more clear. I think you can see how I find it insulting how you're criticizing our culture when you haven't defined WHAT you think our culture is. Different Armenians from different parts of the world have kept more of our traditional culture than others.

Maybe she couldn't afford a sport bra I'm so glad the world wasn't so judgmental when I was growing up. Here is a little eye opener, tomboys are into athletics and other things boys do so when they develop a chest, they feel uncomfortable with the change to their bodies. Maybe I'm just a little simple minded....

What this has to do with Armenian culture or charm is beyond me.

I think we should all let loose and let nature take it's course. Trying to control Armenian woman is only going to make em rebel. Let it all go. I think in the long run, the Armenian Diaspora will find itself in a more comfortable and evolved state. We're heading down that road anyway. No point in slowing it down. And hey, you might like what you see in the end.
