Iranian New Year affects Armenian dram rate

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Sharp fluctuations in the national currency of Armenia are mainly conditioned by the influx of dollars into the country, in particular, the influx of tourists from Iran who came to celebrate Novruz (New Year) in Armenia, Andranik Tevanyan, head of Political Economy Research Center told PanARMENIAN.Net.

According to him, unlike the rest of the world, the dollar rate in Armenia is an internal process controlled by the state. At this point, in his opinion, the dram rate is closer to the fixed rate.

Sharp fluctuations are not expected, Andranik Tevanyan said.

On March 17 at the foreign exchange market the rate of Armenian dram to U.S. dollar exceeded the "psychological" mark and reached 400.10 dram/dollar, after which the rate of drama gradually devalued. In recent days the situation on the foreign exchange market started to stabilize, and today the rate is 394.62 dram/dollar.

According to the representative of RA Ministry of Economy Mekhak Apresyan , the tourism sector recorded significant growth. "Only within March 15-17 thousands of Iranian citizens arrived in Armenia, at least three times more than during the same period of 2009," he said.

I have also heard that most of these tours from Iran have special deals that include Turkey and Azerestan for destination as well as Armenia in one trip.

Not everyone Mos, come on! There are good people and bad people, but you can't judge who is who just from their ethnic background. Any people can come, and bad people will come...but Europeans are as corrupted and damaged as anybody can be, the fact their Europeans or of whatever religion has nothing to do with what kind of people they are.

You are making rather self righteous ethnic generalizations yourself and who exactly appointed you as the "corrupted and damaged" Europeans moral judge?

The Iranians are acquiring Armenia assets to extend their influence. However I willing to bet that they are also laundering money.

Nope, I was saying social corruption and a damaged society is global and you can find people who are corrupted and damaged coming from every country and having every background, just as you can find every kind of people. I don't share the idea of "the people from here is good because they are X, while the ones from here are bad because they are Y," good people and bad people live across the world. You can't deny that...I am not moral judge of anything, I am just realist.

Nope, I was saying social corruption and a damaged society is global and you can find people who are corrupted and damaged coming from every country and having every background, just as you can find every kind of people. I don't share the idea of "the people from here is good because they are X, while the ones from here are bad because they are Y," good people and bad people live across the world. You can't deny that...I am not moral judge of anything, I am just realist.

I did not see ashot playing god anywhere. Keep up the good work Ashot-i find your realism refreshing. The influx of the Iranians is a good thing-the more the marrier! We have several powerfull neighbors-one wants us dead and the other two are rather friendly but only one of the friendly ones has a direct border with us and actually enjoys paying us a visit and doing business in our country. This needs to only be incouraged. The homogenious isolation that has prevailed in Armenia since its reformation is a unnatural state and this influx of Iranians is the begining of better things to come-provided there is peace in the region.
