It has nothing to do with your culture, because it's been the case in just about every culture at some point or other, and the reason is simple. Most cultures are patriarchal, and passed property or power or something else from father to son, and a son needed to be legitimate to inherit whatever it is he was to inherit. The only way to ensure that a son was legitimately yours was to know that your wife had never been with another man. Most cultures, when they did such novel things as allowing women to have property or hold positions of power, gave it up. Perhaps you should as well. A women keeping herself a virgin for her husband is not doing it because she has any more respect for her body or her future partner than anyone else. She is doing it because she was made to believe that she should do it by those in positions of power who wanted her to behave that way, for the simple reason that their fathers did the same, for the simple reason that a thousand years ago, there was actually some legal significance to a woman's virginity. And now, because people like you are so hip on 'preserving their culture,' and just doing whatever it is that their fathers did, with no regard whatsoever to why they did it, it continues.
      finally some decent comments

            That's not surprising.

It's the result of assimilation into western culture.

Siamanto, first of all, I must commend you on your post. You managed to write a whole post without using the word "gossip". For everyone else, that's not much of anything, but for you, it's something to be proud of, as it is a major accomplishment, and to potentially be put on your internet resume. But you have still a long way to go my young padowan.

So you didn't deny that your whole attempt at being inquisitive was simply a sham, a facade, and an attempt at trying to be a bully?? I'm glad we are on the same page. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with being a bully, it's just I don't attempt nor pretend to be one. Those of us that do, and I won't name names, can, with time, practice, and patience, eventually be one as well.

How would you know what these people are like? Are you omniscient? Have you met these people or talked to them? Merely making a conclusion, as you would say, based on limited exposure is not valid, and you are ignorant. Earlier you name called me and called on my ignorance for daring to express in a similar analogy a view about your fetishized France. You said, while having never been there, I could not validly comment. It appears you are a victim of your own argument here, for you created an intellectual boomerang that came back at you.

Which one is true? Can we comment and make a conclusion about someone or something without, as you would call it, direct exposure, or what constitutes in your deranged mind as the necessary condition, or can't we? If that argument still holds, then your views here are nothing more than barks of ignorance. If, on the other hand, we can comment on something or someone we have no direct knowledge of, then allow me to comment on your desperate little self. You are by far the most accessible example of an internet caricature. Of all the people I have encountered here, the only person who rivals you in this regard, is the winocreature. Although you are poles apart, for I actually consider you intelligent, yet in this little regard you are like long lost brothers. You have this amazing ability, (or disability depending on your viewpoint) to hold these grudges, looong grudges, over the internet, the god damned internet! What does that say about a person, the fact that he holds such grudges over an interweb, and never letting go?

I will admit that, me and loseyourname (and he can verify this) have had some of the most teeth grinding, personal, and irritating discussions, yet I never held a grudge against him, nor has he held a grudge against me and I respected him all the more for that, because he knew this was just an internet. You need to just sort of relax, and have someone tell you, "It's okay Siamanto, you can sit down now, and have a beer, oops I meant wine, since wine is the preferred drink in France, and we all know France is better than everything."

You may be aware that Nietzsche had a word for someone like you: tchandala.

                    P.S. Overman or slave mentality???

Oh, you silly goober, it wasn't a cheap shot. It was exactly what it was, a good shot, which is why it got your attention.

P.S. Oh, and I'm glad you are following and paying attention to my Nietzsche thread. Unfortunately, you are not adept enough yet to know the distinctions between overman and slave mentality. A few more years when you learn some self-control, and letting go of the internet.

                      thanks...anonymouse is backo...

but you know, to tie this into this thread even more, i like the ideas you raise about judging someone. what do you guys think about judging girls who have had sex? many armenian guys automatically label a nonvirgin girl a xxxx, when in reality this girl is far from being one. let's start with this thought. which is better, a girl who is not a virgin but has only had sex with her boyfriend or a girl who is technically a virgin but has hooked up with too many guys to count? obviously the second could hide her past (esp if the hooking up is done in college somewhere far from home or if it's done with non-armos so that word does not spread). anyway, the armo guy who marries this girl would say he's marrying a virgin. However, the second girl, let's say she breaks up with this boyfriend, would be called a nonvirgin xxxx 'cause the guy she marries will know that she's not a virgin. anyway, what do you all you think?
