The thing is you can not chose your allies, it's like with friends it has to come from both sides. For example Armenia has good relations with the US, China, Germany, France, Belgium, Cyprus, etc. But non of them have the power and the will to do anything about Turkey and their support of Azerbaijan. While Azerbaijan has to pay the full price for their weapons Armenia gets a nice discount or for free, and we are hosting their last base in the South Caucasus.

Right now they (Russia) has the chance to get control over the power plants being build in Turkey, on every aspect they will gain power over Turkey and start controlling a vital part of their energy sector. Can you tell me how did this hurt the Armenian-Russian relationship?

Building cuple of AES dosent give russia any control over turkey... bulding and controling are diferent things... turks are not that stuped they never will give control of any thing in their country to anyone... even Americans for using Incherlick every time asking permission of turks.
What hurts Armenian -Russia relationes is the thing you are trying to do not see. Rconfirmation of Moscow treaty. Indirect or direct I do not know.

Georgia two years lost, for the next couple of decades maybe even longer parts of their territory. Their army got destroyed and it will take a long time to get them back to their former strength. You keep forgetting the little fact that they have sea access and non of their borders are closed. Any other country in Georgia's position would be much better of than they are now.

Georgia had lost this lands befor the war... it tried to regain them but couldnt... so they didnt looss anything or almost anything... concidering huge monetary compensation they have received from west after the war...

The world isn't right, the strong dictate the weak. The hard fact is we need Russia and their weapons (that we get for a much cheaper price or even for free). Armenia can handle Azerbaijan like we have done in the past. However Armenia today and for the next decade can not handle the sheer power of the Turkish army. That's the hard fact we are living in today. The wars started by America, Turkish invasions of Kurdish Iraq and the Russian invasion has shown us that the world doesn't give a damn about the weaker countries unless they have a strategic interest in those countries.

OK so lets cry all over the world that we are weak and if not russia we are lost....

Yes that is the price thay pay for having base on our land... and I do not think that price is to high for russia... no other country in the region wants them there.
I am sure we can host an American and Chines base as well... they would give us more weapones and chiper than russia I am not kiding... look at turkmens they have russian and american bases simultaneusely

Let me start by posting this little piece so Russia will control the power plants the first seven years and after that they will buy the shares from the Russians.

Russia to build Turkey’s nuclear plant

Dmitri Medvedev on Wednesday sealed a $20bn deal for Russia to build Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, furthering Moscow’s ambition of carving out a bigger role in the renascent international market for nuclear energy.

Energy cooperation is the core of a rapidly developing partnership between Moscow and Ankara, former cold war rivals who say bilateral trade could reach $100bn in the next five years – half the value of Russia’s trade now with the entire European Union.


“Turkey and Russia are strategic partners, not just in words but in reality,” the Russian president told reporters on Wednesday during a trip to Ankara, where he also discussed Moscow’s involvement in an oil pipeline that will cut tanker traffic through the Bosphorus straits and struck a deal to scrap visa requirements for short visits.

Russia, which already sells Turkey 70 per cent of its imported energy, has overcome Turkish criticism of cost and over-dependence on its neighbour to win the nuclear deal, after making the only bid in a 2008 tender that was later cancelled.

Sergei Kirienko, head of the country’s nuclear agency, said the deal was a breakthrough because Russia would keep a controlling stake in the project. It will own 100 per cent at first and may later sell 49 per cent to another investor.

“We have been striving for this for a long time … it is much more interesting for us to be co-investors in such projects,” he said.

This arrangement might also allow Turkey’s government to take a stake in the project at a later stage. It had considered doing so upfront in order to give the plant’s operator greater guarantees and so bring down the cost of the project.

Mr Kirienko said state-owned Rosatom would finance construction of the plant on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, with four reactors and a generating capacity of 4,800MW.

Tetas, Turkey’s state electricity company, has pledged to buy up to 70 per cent of power when the plant begins generating in 7 years time, with some sold on the open market.

The deal illustrates Russia’s appetite to cement its position in Turkey’s domestic energy market, one of the fastest growing in the region, as Ankara proceeds with privatisations of power distribution grids and generating assets.

Mr Medvedev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish prime minister, both noted that they had also discussed future co-operation on Russia’s planned South Stream gas pipeline, and plans to build a refinery at the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/ba891592-5...#axzz1HH2PX0fj

And yes you are right getting your army destroyed and having the second strongest power recognizing your lands as a separate republic is nothing at all and it seems you don't realize how much it costs to rebuild an army. Azerbaijan needed almost ten years to do that after the Artsakh war.

We should recognize how the world is today, and stop living in a dream world like some people love doing, where there is no danger for the Armenian state. Russia today is needed that is the only fact that matters nothing else. You can xxxxx all you want it doesn't change that fact. Till this moment non of you have brought any real other options that Armenia has.

America has bases in Turkey and Iraq, doesn't need a base in Armenia at all. Having an American base in Armenia will damage our relationship with Russia and Iran. Russia sees the Caucasus as a part of it's influence sphere and Iran is very obvious.
Now China, China doesn't right now have the ability or the power to build a base in the the Russian influence sphere but we can ignore that part. China has nothing to gain with building a base in Armenia and their capability to project their military power over such a distance right now is non existent. So if something goes wrong they can not react.
