Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Re: Armenian lesbians/gays

"According to ADandelion above the very basic in us; human beings is; sex and sex organs the rest of our belongings are secondary things. "

Missed addressing this the first time around. I'm not saying that the drive for sex is the foundation off of which everything is built, or the number one priority for us to consider when making decisions.

I'm saying it's a basic component of the human psyche. It's as primal and instinctual as the love for one's child, or the desire to protect one's family, or jealousy, or the appreciation of music... Telling people that it's abnormal to want to have sex is the equivalent of telling people it's abnormal for them to love their siblings.

Also, there is a big difference between acknowledging one's desire and acting on it. I believe that by acknowledging and accepting sex drive, we demystify it and allow people to have a much healthier and controlled regard for their own sexuality. People can then choose to remain chaste until marriage, or to have sex with their partner out of wedlock - but they can do so not as a backlash from fear and lack of information, but as a deliberate and healthy choice of which they can understand the consequences and be able to deal with the repercussions.

On the whole question of homosexuality, I ask that the straight reader imagines this: imagine that you male and born into a world where you must marry your own gender. Where as a straight man in a gay world, the idea of being with a man fills you with revulsion. You cannot fall in love with a man, sleep with a man, becasue you are hard-wired to love women. You can't answer the question of when you 'knew' you were straight - it's just something you have always been, since birth.

You spend your whole life trying to live up to this expectation. Hiding your tastes, mannerisms, feelings, your very sense of self. And then you meet a kind, intelligent, beautiful woman that you want to share your life with. And then you come to realize that everyone you know and love would never see you the same way again, would pity you and be disgusted with you, if you try to approach this woman. It eats you alive, from the inside out, as you're burned by the very skin you wear.

And so goes on the rest of your life. Now I ask you, what kind of a life is that to live? And what compassion is there for endorsing or encouraging that?

Well when you have people talking about banning contraception and abortion then you move into personal freedom sphere really really fast. (ie reread what Retro is suggesting)

And notice that so far no one has put forth a proposal as to how all those children who are born in an effort to increase Armenia's population are going to be fed, clothed, educated, etc., when their would-be fathers are mostly unemployed or underemployed. The American model of the insular family unit is also not very functional.

One possibility might be the Kibbutz model, however. It worked nicely for Israel, and in fact is still practiced. It achieves the same goal of increasing a culturally-aware and connected population, but from a very different approach where democratic and egalitarian values are at the core of society. Mothers and fathers both work. Children grow up together in a community of caring adults. They have access to education, health care, arts and culture. The elderly are kept in happy, safe, homes with their families. No one impinges upon anyone's sexual orientation or activity.

But, unfortunately, this model would never be adopted by Armenians. It is too left-leaning, too progressive, too egalitarian. Also, heaven forbid the Armenians say the xxxs did anything right.

Banning abortions is a way to solve the demographic crisis. That being said, sex-based abortions are a big problem in Armenia. Where parents are overwhelmingly aborting females, which again causes negative impact to demographics. As for contraception, while outright banning it would be near impossible, certain restrictions could be placed on the selling of them.

I am not suggesting that Armenia adopt repressive, Spartan practices. However Armenia is a Christian nation and she could elect to outlaw contraception, abortion, female infanticide and homosexuality.

I wouldn't mind seeing more participation of the Armenian Church in the political sphere. Given the importance of our church and faith, it should play bigger role in our political aspects.

Yah lets forget all the intellectual, moral, scientific, and spiritual progress humanity has made in the last 2000 years and lets go back to the dark ages. Let's believe Noah landed on our amazing mountain and Noah and the animals ran down multiplied and made our motherland what it is today. Lets pretend the fantasy father created Earth 5000 years ago and he doesn't want the woman to put the seed of the apple in her mouth and swallow for a change. She just has to look at it and wait ...

Outlaw contraception in the name of God so you scare even married people from having sex ... they can't masturbate, they can't have sex ... so what do you end up with? Taliban anyone? Where is the giant barf smilie when you need it?
                this post = teh win.

There's no need for the exaggeration. Banning abortion would actually do good amount of benefit for Armenia, esp in demographic issue. And I do think our church should be brought closer to our laws and governance, in order to prevent our society to turning into irreligious, morally corrupt place.

The nuclear family has served humanity rather well for millions of years. However feel free to go and live in this tribal commune/labor camp of yours.

Armenia can easily feed and support several times it's present mass and it's operating under capacity pretty much across the board. Private land owners in Armenia need to be forced to lease large tracks of arable land to agricultural businesses or be subject to massive fines. As Armenian farmers need to plant far more wheat.

Unfortunately I am NOT exaggerating about Christianity. The stories of Genesis, Noah and the Flood, the notion of the God that is always watching are central themes. I only WISH I were exaggerating. This mental disconnect comes up over and over and over. There is this inherrent but completely incorrect assumption that somehow morality comes from religion where in fact there's sooo much evidence that you can be very religious and completely immoral (as history has shown time and time again) and at the same time be devoid of religion yet be very moral (and of course vice versa).

I'd like to think Armenians were moral people before Christianity showed up and they will continue being moral long after Christianity goes away. I don't see why we have to force it.
